Samsung's newest 49 inch ultrawide. Deal probably won't last long. I was surprised to see it at this price after the $1,399 sold out this morning.

Just picked up the Dell 49" used for $800 -- can't see myself paying any more for this size monitor/resolution

I used a curved monitor at work and boy is it the worst thing ever. A nice 27" normal monitor wipes the floor with it.

Monitor tech is updating every year. We are finally seeing UW 34" under $500 so doesnt make too much sense spending more than 1k on a monitor.

Can you make a circle with 4?
This monitor has a curve of 1000R or that of a circle with 1 meter radius. Equivalent to a 6.28m circumference of screen or 247.2 inches.

Does anyone know whether the 49 inch diagonal measurement is across the surface of the monitor or the 3 dimension chord drawn from opposite corners on the monitor? At a 32:9 aspect ratio, 49" diagonal is >48" of circumference. At 49" this will equate to about 5 monitors - you can close the gap by creating a slightly distorted circle.

I'd recommend 5 monitors for a full circle.

Since I know this was a very serious question, I decided to calculate it.

I came up with ~5.24 monitors making a full circumference, but i didn't account for bezel. So best to stick with 5 Smilie
Do you know whether the screen diagonal is measure by the screen surface or just the physical distance between opposite corners?

If I were looking for this size I think I'd buy that Monoprice 49". I've been using the Monoprice 35" ultra wide for 2 yrs and have been happy with it

Great question. Not 100% on this but the math checks out:

Samsung markets this as a 49" monitor, and the width of the unit is listed in the specs as 45.18".

With a 49" diagonal, the horizontal would be 47.17", which is bigger than the unit's width spec, meaning it's very likely the arc length (the length all the way along the curve rather than straight across from corner to corner).

To corroborate this, an arc length of 47.17" and a radius of 39.37" (1 meter) should have a chord length of 44.4" or so, and considering the extra housing around the outsides of the monitor, this is close enough to 45.18" to be believable.

To answer your question more concisely: it appears to be the screen surface Smilie
