I was seriously considering getting this. It's at the top end of my budget but 86" is extremely tempting. After reading more about ips panels in a dark room I'm opting for the Samsung ru8000. It's 82", has significantly better reviews than this tv on rtings and a va panel. Also has slightly better reviews than the Q6dt that's on sale at Sam's club.

You consider the new mini led tcl 6 series? There's a 75" for $1399. Biggest difference to point out is TCL has FALD where the ru8000 is edge lit and the HDR brightness is much much higher than the samsung. And if course the hdmi 2.1 spec but that's not all that important for some buyers, mainly a gaming spec

My original plan was to get a 75" but with the size of my room I'd rather have an 82-86. I put painters tape up on the size of an 82 and a 75 just wouldn't have as much of that "wow" factor. And at $1400 I'd rather opt for a bigger size and sacrifice some quality for around the same price.

I'm coming from an old 2012/2013 sharp aquos and watch a lot of tv in dark rooms, so anything within the last year or two at 4k will be a major upgrade, even if it's only a low-mid tier tv.

They really don't, they literally have the worst picture quality out of all 4k tvs on the market.

I bought the LG UN8570PUC 86 a couple weeks ago. I'm not sure the differences, but really love it. The wide angles in my basement that i could view it from are really nice. I upgraded from 70 lg ips. I dont notice a significant black level issue .

Great tv in my opinion

OK...please suggest your picks for best 4k tvs under $2000. I'm in the market and bewildered by all the choices.

Is that why they've always got a top spot on RTINGS?

I have two LG 4K IPS (55 and 43). The blacks are horrible.

I bought this one after debating and am very satisfied so far. The picture is gorgeous and I don't think the demo reel at the stores does it justice. The reviews on rtings are not for the same TVs as these are new models and haven't been done yet as far as I know. Also, I would not say the reviews are significantly better but rather equivalent overall but just dependent on your lighting conditions. I am not going for a dark room, and VA panels might put more strain on the eyes. Also, viewing angles, sports and gaming are better on the LG. I would rather have the advantage of the other three over a little better dark level/contrast accuracy. To each his own though. The Sammy is perfectly fine too but I also prefer WebOS over Tizen.

I think we all realize you can buy a horrible <any-tv-here>. Samsung, LG, TCL, Sony... They all make "cheap" TVs. So to imply that, because you subjectively, feel that your non-specific LG panels have horrible blacks helps absolutely nobody.

Got an example of a non-nano LG 4K IPS with excellent blacks? If not, take your pointless critique and move along.

I'm interested to know which mid-tier other-branded tvs have great blacks, so please feel inclined to share as well.
