None in stock in North Jersey.

I see a Youtube video that reviews this same model but with 4 instead of 8Gb for $250 in 2019.

1 in stock near me. Is this a decent deal? Need a couple laptops for kiddo remote learning, their school-provided chromebook is garbage.

OS - Windows® 10 Home in S mode: [microsoft.com]
Quote :
Windows 10 in S mode is a version of Windows 10 that's streamlined for security and performance, while providing a familiar Windows experience. To increase security, it allows only apps from the Microsoft Store, and requires Microsoft Edge for safe browsing. For more info, see the Windows 10 in S mode page.
Does anyone know if S mode can be disabled or easily overcome? If not, this looks like a deal-breaker to me.

Yes, from the link you referenced

How do I switch out of S mode?

To increase security and performance, Windows 10 in S mode runs only apps from the Microsoft Store. If you want to install an app that isn't available in the Microsoft Store, you'll need to permanently switch out of S mode. There's no charge to switch out of S mode, but you won't be able to turn it back on. If you're blocked from switching and your device belongs to an organization, check with your administrator. Your organization can choose to keep all devices in S mode.

On your PC running Windows 10 in S mode, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation.Find the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, then select the Go to the Store link.

Note

Don't select the link under Upgrade your edition of Windows. That's a different process that will keep you in S mode.

On the page that appears in the Microsoft Store (Switch out of S mode or a similar page), select the Get button. After you confirm this action, you'll be able to install apps from outside the Microsoft Store.

Is this similar to the one offered 2 weeks ago for $349? I wonder if I could get a price adjustment. We've been very pleased with it even at $350. It's great.

Yup it can. Windows S is a wanna be Chromebook that just sucks for the most part but has good intentions. They tried to market off the successes of Google and bring those PCs to the Education and average home user just as Google is doing now. Needless to say the kinks that were present a few years ago still exist. They need to revamp the entire Microsoft Store before they even think that it's viable to promote this OS. Time is ticking however and ChromeOS just keeps getting better and better everyday.

For the laptop itself it's a pretty good deal and is more than capable of running standard windows. Just ditch the S mode and you have a decent PC for an affordable price
