so you admit you were wrong. 10th gen is 20-30 % faster as illustrated with i7-10710u vs i7-8565u which is the direct replacement for one another.

clearly, this laptop with an 8th gen i7 performs as fast as 10th gen i5 so its NOT a deal.
I think you still did not understand. The comparison between processor happen between similar configured Processors. You cannot just compare the performance of a Dual Core Processor and a Quad Core Processor and say Quad Core is better and same for between 4 Core and 6 Core. And you are so much blabbering now. The comparison here is between the i7-8565U and the 10th Gen comparable Processor i5-10510U and the performance difference is at max 7% and in most cases it is around 4%. And what the hell with like comparing a generation with another generation...compare between the actual CPUs.
For example, if you take a Zen + architecture based 8 Core Ryzen 7 2700X and Zen 2 based 6 Core Ryzen 5 3600X then Zen+ 2700X will perform better in Multi-threaded workloads...does it mean Zen+ is better than Zen 2?

whatever. you are just nitpicking.

first you said you wanted all these features at below 1k... so i found it for you with with a 144hz panel... now you say you wanted more....whats next? you only want specific brand?
whatever.
You just not getting the different purpose of different breed of Laptops and trying to suggest laptops which are completely unrelated and targeted towards completely different audience.

the cpu in this laptop, which is an i7 8th gen, performs likes an i5 10th gen cpu... so basically you are paying for an i5 10th gen with shorter battery life.

What part of 4% below Core i7 10th gen you did not understand? The Quad Core i5 and i7 for Intel U series does not have much of a performance difference to start with in the first place.

the point on this forum is, this laptop is an awful with its 8th gen i7 because it performs like a 10th i5. $899 is too much to pay for an i5. period.

Actually it is not and that's why most of the posters, apart from you, considered this to be a great deal. The difference between a 19th Gen i5 and 8th Gen i7 is same and a 10th Gen Quad Core i7 is just like 4% faster than this. Apart from Processor, there are other things to be considered while buying a Work or Business Laptops and there are very few laptops at this price point, having those. So, learn what are those parameters in the first place, rather than claiming childishly that this is bad deal because this 8th Gen i7 performs 5% slower than your so-called 10th Gen Quad Core i710510, the model replaced this.

I appreciate the debate here. But the real problem is the chip makers and their naming conventions. It seems to me that from one product cycle to the next, the names become irrelevant. That is, a 10th gen i7 and and 8th gen i7 have nothing in common other than i7.

This guy again comparing a 6 core i7-10710u with quad core i5-8565u to prove his garbage point despite explaining it multiple time. Compare it with i7-10510u which is the direct replacement of i7-8565u. Man, this guy is do desparate to prove his idiotic points.... He really should start begging for knowledge.
And just to give you an idea, there are only three laptops which come with 6 core i7-10710u and they are MSI Prestige 14 and 15 and Dell XPS 13 2019 version.

so you can't have more cores between generations? you are so desperate to sell your thread you are trying to sell people essentially an i5 with bad battery life.

and this one has 6 core 12 threads for only $100 more with much better specs and 10th gen cpu

I think you both may have a point on the processor, but you clearly misunderstand the point of laptops - this does not have better specs unless you're buying a laptop to play video games. 99% of the people who travel, do work away from their desk, and work in an office want the P6:
  1. The ASUS gets 5 hours on battery. The Acer lasts 20 in review tests.
    2. Your laptop has half the RAM, though both can be upgraded.
    3. The Acer is less than half the weight, since the one you picked is 5.3lbs.
    4. Where is the Thunderbolt on your machine?
    5. If I need to join a teleconference for work/school with this ASUS, where is the webcam? Oh, I need an external one.

This is what people mean when they say it's a different type of computer.Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

you clearly don't read earlier comments...anyways

that was only an example of a better spec for just a bit more, my point is, there is no reason to get last gen at this price point. you can EASILY get a current gen or Ryzen with much better specs and battery life will be better.

that was one example, here is another
