TiVo sent me an email about a $50 off deal for a ChannelMaster outdoor TV antenna. Regular price is $89. With the coupon code TIVO the sell price is $39. Free shipping and no tax in NJ.
Per website :

The ULTRAtenna is a 4-bay, phased array, multi-directional outdoor antenna that receives high definition and digital signals from a span of 180 degrees. This antenna has a reception range of up to 60 miles.

Price is $89 elsewhere (Amazon, Walmart, etc)
Good deal for cord cutters like me.

Locast and a Chromecast and you're good to go. No need for this monstrosity.

I can't speak for or against the antenna from this deal, but I recently bought this one and was super impressed by its reception.

Would this be the best type of antenna to use in the attic of a 2 story home in Los Angeles?
Yes, especially if your attic can see Mt. Wilson.

Does it work for an area about 70 miles away from the towers? Between San Diego and Riverside CA.

Radiant barrier is great at blocking TV reception, I would be surprised if you get any reception in there. Do yourself a favor and find a way to put it outside.

Do most coax splitters work as combiners too?
Yes. And here's why: https://youtu.be/PJaffNvOjho

How does locast work? Is it live TV? I have a Tivo but it can't record from Locast. I was just wondering if recording was even necessary with it.

I have an antenna myself but locast (free app) on any smart TV does the same thing.
From locast website: "Unfortunately Locast is not available in your area."

the neighborhood has restrictions Frown.

yeah, it's terrible! We've got two antennas up in the attic now.

A flat amplified one + 1PLUS HDTV Antenna Outdoor connected to CHANNEL PLUS 2532 2-Way Splitter/Combiner CHANNEL PLUS 2532.

It's decent, but super inconsistent. This one should be a better replacement, right?

Thanks for the locast suggestion! Works great on Roku. The resolution isn't as good as OTA but for local news it's fine.
