Having transactions automatically accepted is merely an option. Nothing to stop you from automatically downloading everything and then manually accepting them and assigning categories, etc. as you go.

I'm not sure why you say it's "gone far downhill". It's actually being supported and getting updates much more frequently now that it's owned by a different company and has an income stream from subscriptions. The only downhill part is having to pay for the subscription.

If you want something to download transactions for free, either Mint or Personal Capital will do it. If anyone wants to try Personal Capital, I can share a referral code that will get us each a $50 Amazon gift card if you link an investment account. Note they will try to sell you on their managed investment service.
