Their sales price selections of movies have been lame lately.

I saw this in Walmart's $6.96 Bluray bin yesterday. People near a Walmart which still has a bin might want to check there. RIP the $5 bin, but it's hard to fight inflation (and greed). I got both Gremlins along with the Goonies in a Warner pack for $9 at Walmart 8 years ago, and then it was $5.96 at Walmart the subsequent BF long ago. No time machine comments needed. Just giving some price history.

Price history, time machine comments, it's all the same "I did better than this deal" blustering. Saying it isn't that doesn't make it not that.
Well, it's true I did better than this deal (as did lots of other people who bought this long ago). I think past prices are useful info to know for those who haven't bought it yet (i.e. it might go on sale again someday), plus some Walmarts have it cheaper in the bin. I say no time machine comments because it's tiring to hear those whenever anyone brings up a past deal. By that logic, we should ban camelcamelcamel and any other price tracker sites because any past price info is irrelevant and requires a time machine. I post a lot less than I used to, and when people react negatively to helpful price info I try to post, it won't be long before I post almost nothing. More free time for me, less info for the rest. Works for me.

One Amazon review says gremlins 1/2 are full-screen, not widescreen.

Yes the greedy walmart overlords increased the price for their bin clientele. I remember when VHS tapes were a steal at $10....20 years ago.

But would greed also l fall under complaining about the price being higher than 9 years ago? Or being a "bin" shopper?

I am curious - are the Blu-ray versions of old movies upscaled so that they're really in HD? I don't even have a BR player, but I've always wondered...

They usually remaster blu rays in native HD (often times 4K downsampled to 1080p). They go back and scan the original film elements at these higher resolutions.

Blu rays typically look substantially better than DVD if they are properly remastered (as most are), though if I recall correctly the Gremlins blu rays came out a long time ago and weren't fully remastered, so these may not be the biggest upgrades and certainly not the best these films could possibly look.

VHS? More like 30 years ago.

I'm surprised people are still buying physical media. I donated my last blu-ray player last year because I hadn't used it in more than 2 years.
Meh, physical media still has value, especially for niche films or AV perfectionists (UHD). At $3.33 per film you probably can't get any cheaper on digital anyway, though with mediocre presentations on these old blu ray masters you probably don't lose anything going digital. (Goonies and Gremlins 1 for sure each have 4K available, so these blu rays actually are inferior presentations to what you can get digital, but that's also why they're dirt cheap).

I bought the 4K UHD version of Gremlins 1 from Fandango a few months ago when someone posted it for $5. It's looks great in UHD.

That review is erroneous.
