Just say no to Monoprice SLA printers!!! Spend a little more on a Mars instead. These are absolute junk.

Can you cover a little more detail about what makes it junk? At this price, it seems like a decent entry point to get familiar without too much monetary commitment, and the reviews on the site are mixed but skew positive. I'm 3d-printer curious (no real plans, might be neat to mess around with), and ~$140 seems like it's getting into impulse buy territory. All that said, junk is still junk.

If one were to go with a Mars instead, what would be the equivalent entry-level model?

Never had a Mars, but I do have a Monopirce SLA. I originally got a V1, but they upgraded me due to a warranty issue to a V2. It prints decently, I just never use it.

I find resin printers are good for what they are, but just too much work (dirty, keeping resin clean, swapping out the VAT's, etc) for me to use that much. I only use it when I have a specific need (like super HQ print or clearish).

Is this a good thing? I'm with LTE and this is crazy close to impulse territory as a first 3d printer. But I get the impression from Tinny that this isn't a beginner printer.

One thing about 3d printers is there really isn't a good beginner printer, the issues that come with them can be tedious. It's important to choose one with a good printer support community on facebook wanhao(monoprice), creality, and elegoo have good communities for sla printers. Just make sure to study your printer before you start work with it.

Reviews on monoprice state there are issues with hardware and the software it comes with are a joke, so I would probably not suggest it for new users, but i cant speak for it personally as I am just starting to look into 3D printing. I saw enough to pass on this though.

For those considering this for a 1st time dipping toes into 3D printers, I did that about 3 months ago with a Sculpto 2pro from JoAnn $100 sale and I can give you some advise. That's one of the easiest 3d printers you're going to find on the market, and it's still a TON of work. 3D printing is still a hobby so you have to have time and $ invested.

Did I mention it's a hobby? I had hoped Sculpto was going to be closer to owning like a HP inkjet printer to hit print and be done, but nothing fancy as I just wanted simple toys and trinklets for my 3yr old, but it's been a much bigger investment than I expected. if you're not going to put in the tens/hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars on supplies and tools, you're not going to get much (or at all) out of it.

It depends on rather or not you think you'll like it. Going with pursa over creality gives you more than just a community. It gives you a company that stands behind their product that you can look to for advice.

There are a ton of popular DLP printers. I personally like phrozen over mars for the out the box experience. But I don't think you could go wrong with either.
