Yes, I must be a huge shill based on my post history on SD since 2008.
I think you are mistaken that these have been $12-$13. iHealth is a somewhat reputable brand that didn't just jump on the bandwagon the last few months like most of the others that you've seen recently.
I'm not sure how iHealth reputable is, though at least it's not some unknown brand snapped on numerous clones sold by different name.

The brand was created in 2011 by Andon or Jiuan (in Chinese name)
The Chinese manufacturing company, heavily invested by Xiaomi and consumer products become part of Xiaomi umbrella.

Got it and compared the temperatures to my old school mouth thermometer that I got years ago and it has been spot on or off by .1 close enough for me and super easy to use. I am very happy with this purchase and suggest it.

Is the older model better?
Yes, the rectal thermometer is the most accurate. This is why vets perform on dogs and cats. Everyone goes home happy.

The product is called iHealth. An inside joke.

So many of these low end thermometers have shaky reviews that it makes it tough to know if they'll be useful when they're needed most. At least this one appears to have better reviews and claims to have a presence in the US. But, there are lots of questionable 5 star reviews peppered with some terrible reviews and it just gets murkier the more you search. Dig deep enough and there are similar thermometers for <$10 but I have no idea how effective they are...

I believe normal price is $25, but in March they jacked up the price to $50. Glad to see it at $19.

Rectal version is most accurate, this version is a little more convenient.

So your questioning the brand credibility and then saying they are under the Xiaomi umbrella? Xiaomi is a very credible brand whether it's Chinese or not. Not everything Chinese made is trash.

Anyway, I got mine today and tested on 3 of my children. So far it's very accurate compared to our Braun. Some of the reviews mentioned issues with longevity but I guess I'll find out. It's smaller than I thought it would be.

Had ordered 2 - cancelled both after reading reviews
I have this model, and FWIW, it is excellent. Not sure what the reviews are about... but this is a good tech company.

I also respect Wyze a lot, and they tapped into iHealth for their no touch thermometers.

Got this in the mail yesterday. Tried it out today and it was pretty spot on and super easy to use, which is why I got it.

Plus, it's so much cheaper than the Braun in ear, which 2 of the 3 we had broke down within 3 years of use.
