These unbranded wifi adapters are trash. I have tested a couple of them from Amazon and nothing close to my Netgear Ac600.

No kidding
Ever seen the Netgear factory? Probably not--because there isn't one. All their hardware is made by an OEM/ODM in China. Plenty of reliable "no-name" adapters that don't come in a fancy box or heavily marked up to cover the returns at retail from all the users who don't know how to use product. I'm a system builder of decent volume and I order direct from factory -- thousands of units per year. We offer free exchange for a year. We don't sell individually--just with systems and we hardly ever need to do a replacement.

Will this be faster than the internal wireless card in my laptop? I bought cheap a laptop 300 dollars, it seems the network is slower than macbook. Not sure if it's a driver issue or just cheap wireless card.

Thanks for finding this one, best price I see for these specs. I'd like to know the answer as well.

Maybe some wifi experts can help.

However to kick start the convo, I checked and see the chipsets("circuit board" in the base of the antenna) on these are slightly different model name even though they look identical.

The OP linked antenna uses a "Realtek 8811CU" chipset. Amazon says Reatek but I think that's a typo. Alibaba shows Realtek 8811CU in their listings for similar so Reatek is probably a typo.

The antenna you linked uses a 8811AU.

So we need to see what the difference is between the AU and CU versions.

Now they are both dual band (2.4ghz and 5.8ghz) and both have 5dbi (high gain) antennas.

I'd like to guess these antennas will provide the same level of service.

Your laptop like most probably has a 2dbi internal antenna which is lower gain (can't reach as far) than these high gain 5dbi antennas.

Depending how far you are from your router you'll have different experiences.

If you sit in the same room as your router you should stick with your laptops internal antenna (unless it is broken). Or if it just sucks and you are sure of this(installed most recent wifi card drivers), then get a 2dbi external usb antenna.

Check these websites as reference. Very interesting.
