I prefer zwave because of many manufacturers with lots of options (no neutrals, 3way with regular dumb switches, led indicators, multi-switches, central scene, etc) I doubt homeseer, zooz, innovelli, jasco and others are going to significantly reduce zwave development.

Zigbee support is likely to fragment due to CHIP imo. Some number of zigbee devs will be hired to support chip products given the zigbee foundation of CHIP.
Reading way too much into it. Vulnerability only exists during pairing process. Not a huge issue with light switches, and worth the savings I think.

is z-wave still THE best for home automation?
or is zig bee having a surge and seen to take over and be the one and clear winner of this stuff?

Not S2. Pass. I still prefer zwave over zigbee.
How'd you find out this wasn't S2?

This does not support 3 way configuration unlike most newer zwave switches.

My experience is zwave is usually more stable and quicker than zigbee. While zigbee is cheaper and easier to pair/unpair.

not all controllers support S2 (like Vera for example) so S2 is wasted in those cases

So the S2 provides encryption and even if this was an S2 device, there is a downgrade attack during pairing that would force it into S0 mode. Does anyone know if the S0 key is per device? I'm not that concerned about someone local dimming my lights. I also will never use a Z-Wave door lock.

I have been using z wave along with Smartthings and have been stable for almost 6 years. Only had an issue for about a month about 6 months ago that about 80% of my devices went offline. It came back to life after about a month and have been great. My experience with zigbee hasn't been that great, had a couple of GE bulbs...not good.

Monoprice used to have a z wave dual switch, best device ever. I have it around mine house, it would actually convert a dumb switch into an smart switch...best device ever. Not idea why they stop selling it.
