Bestbuy has the steelbook edition of Cowboy Bebop at a reduced price. Nothing new added to the previous blu-ray release. Picture and sound are great and is at the original 4x3 ratio.

Amazon also price matched this deal.

Both are exactly the same except the steelbook includes a digital copy.
What digital copy?
Edit: actually few reviews on BBY mentioned the digital copy. I wonder if it's for a dubbed version, which would be a downer.

I feel like it was DBZ.
I'm old. We also watched Robotech and this. This, Vampire Hunter D, Ninja Scroll, Akira was the kindling and dbz was the roaring flame

It was Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and Cowboy Bebop that really exploded anime into the west. Original dragon ball had middling popularity, so DBZ didn't really gain traction and viewership until 2-3 years into the show. Sailor Moon was really good and brought female audiences in (shows were marketed towards boys heavily back then because businesses were sexist and said "only boys buy action figures so don't make girl stuff" ). Cowboy Bebop aired with Toonami which had just moved timeslots to the evening (but before it moved to Saturdays) and was the final blow casual audiences needed to really bring anime popularity to the west. All those shows helped in their own ways, Cowboy Bebop is often just credited as the defacto "brought anime over" show because it was the last big one before it was normalized
This is good posting

Honestly thinking about getting this. What's the difference from the current bluray out in the plastic case?

Is this (legally) streamable anywhere? I have a Corgi and random people on the street ask me about Cowboy Bebop when I take him out for walks. I have no idea what it is, but i feel like I need to watch it.

I own it in both Vudu and iTunes. It has been on sale for $5 a number of times on both, though both services only offer the English dub version.

I found that Amazon carries both the English dub and original Japanese versions.

I have the current plastic case. Comparing the extras printed on the back of the case and the description from the Best Buy link, they seem to be the same print. Even my Blu-Ray discs look the same from the pics on the steelbook

I still break out my original serial numbered boxset on DVD. This would give that set a break. Good find!

I have that box set- it looks like the discs are the same, so just the steelbook packaging. I'll be keeping mine as I got some of the voice actors to sign mine at a ComicCon!

Awesome show and if I didn't already own it digital I would get. On a side note, can't wait for the
S-Cry-eD blu-ray release

Love this series but the intro and credits are half of each episode.
Yeah because the music was fantastic and we all love it.

You're closer, but surprisingly...it was a decade earlier with the original Thundercats. At least that's when the seeds were planted.

Both original and 2011 (amazing) versions are streaming on Hulu now. I watched a few of the originals and they hold up pretty amazingly.
