What a VPN does is more than just simple geo blocking. It protects your IP address.

Cheap VPN servers like this either log data during your session or leak DNS to your IP.

If you are streaming off Kodi or firestick....you want a real VPN

If you torrent, you want a real VPN

If you are just geo blocking for netflix....it does not matter what VPN you get so long as it works

I pay 30 a year for a real VPN (half off with promo code). With real kill switch. With real router configuration support...With DNS leak protection in the App. (router has it own protection via OpenVPN when configured)

I tested some of these free or lifetime and let me tell you the front end app scares the hell out of me. No way to make sure if the tunnel fails that my IP is leaked.
I
My service...once the tunnel fails...the internet goes dead...the apps go dead..I can have it terminate any app on my computer. I pay 30 a year for that alone so my IP will NEVER be seen

Cheap VPN have tunnels fail more often. That means more exposure...even if 1 second its exposed..it would be logged by your ISP or someone else looking at what you are doing. It only takes 1 second...not even that.

Get cheap on coffee...that starbucks frap venti you have everyday could pay for a better VPN with just 5 of them...over a year
Generally this is good advice. But for 12 bucks you don't have much to lose if you set your expectations properly.

Also if you are this worried about your VPN failing you might want to reexamine your life choices lol.

Is the real VPN open VPN?

Real VPN means a legit VPN service where they actually retain smart employees who know how to write client apps.

VPN could be openVPN, or wireguard or PPTP, SSTP, L2TP/IPsec, and IKEv2.

See below. I did not disclose the VPN service but its a very popular one. It appears the kill switch failed and leaked his address. That is what you pay for is not the connection but when the connection fails during a session.

However, I still received letters from both separate ISP's saying that they are aware I'm torrenting and even listed the files I have downloaded. Obviously, I'm upset that the VPN didn't work how I wanted it to. But I'm even more upset about my ignorance with using the VPN properly so that I will never get caught again.

I know that VPN's are not perfect and completely untraceable, and that it's always a risk to torrent. But am I doing something wrong? Should I be breaking up the torrent into smaller files with some setting?

I really appreciate any help on this topic.

BTW I am connected to the Netherlands from the U.S. with a VPN that supports p2p sharing.

Purchased. Let's see how good it is

Lifetime = no good, or passable for a while.

StackSocial = icky feeling when done.

I have used them for a year for just altering my location.

The program is stable, works well and easily, looks nice. No connection drops and plenty of servers to choose from. I can't comment on their privacy practices, but for how I use a VPN it is well worth the $12
Does this vpn work with Netflix?

I bought lifetime to windscribe from stacksocial a few years ago. Still works, gets good reviews. I also bought a lifetime for proxpn and got quite a bit of use out of it before it stopped working. It's hit or miss but if you even get a couple months at these prices it's not a big loss.

Hong Kong is even worse now due to current events...
Which mean there is no privacy since China can do anything to request data from vendor, pass.

Unless there's news that they move out of Hong Kong... I would have got this deal otherwise... I have 3 lifetime VPNs so I'm good for now...

I use this VPN for some real whatever stuff and it works. If you're really trying to hide yourself I'm sure you should be looking elsewhere.

To be fair though, these VPN review sites are all just paid advertising.
Those same bozos would praise IPVanish claiming they were safe and secure, then it was revealed they provided logs to the government in 2017. All of those VPN review sites are run by unqualified people with too much time on their hands. I wouldn't trust any VPN, whether they make claims about no logs or are in the proper jurisdiction. If you're doing something nefarious that will attract real government attention, don't trust any paid VPN provider. If you're using this to bypass content restrictions or torrent, you'll probably be fine. The FBI isn't going to go after someone torrenting Talladega Nights. To be on the safe side, avoid their app and use OpenVPN and run it only for specific use cases or have it running in a virtual machine, in case you are paranoid of the company tracking and monitoring your regular internet usage. If you plan on using this for real privacy, I'm not sure that's a great idea.
