Seems expensive, but price is on par with the 980 Pro. Hopefully this will get cheeper over time.

PC is looking better and better.... 5700XT is going to drop like a rock in the coming weeks. Look forward to it hitting $250. Pair it with a R5 3600 and you got yourself a beast of a system and upgradable....

Yep. If you're gaming at 1440P, a 5700XT should be more than enough. Until it's common for 4K displays to push 120+ Hz, I'd take 1440P at 144Hz over 4K 60Hz any day of the week.

I think people don't realize that the heat from these small boxes are going to be a problem. One fan to cool everything is pretty interesting. I am sure in the lab and testing it works great but some garbage update for Warzone and boom, fans are spinning at 5K.

This will be useful down the road when more next gen games come out, but you can still hook up a 4tb external drive like todays xbox and play your current gen games on the series s or x btw.

Plus, expect a 2tb Series X Special Edition Holiday 2021 in a Starfield or Halo Theme.

It states in the specs " collect thousands of games " .. how ?? My current 1tb drive holds about 4-5 games and expansions.... Couple call of dutys , battlefields and forza's and mine is full !! How can this hold MORE .. Seems like 220 bucks for this is alot when you can get a 8tb external hard drive for 130 nowadays..... Am I missing something on this ??

You are adding ab 8tb non ssd. Ssd is a whole different level of cost. Go look at game pass. Tons of great games and most are under 7gb. Not every game is a cod 100gb monster install.

Collect thousands of indie games, maybe. laugh out loud

I knew this was going to happen, proprietary storage medium with a high price tag, and yes I know it's NVMe but I feel the price is high and will remain high. The mid-cycle refresh of the XSS|X will likely have a 2TB internal drive for the same price as the launch unit if not cheaper.

Yes. You are missing the speed of this custom storage vs. a spinning 8TB disk. The speed of loading will be critical for some next gen games. Ratchet and Clank on PS5 had an interesting demo showing how you can warp to an entire new world in less than a second during gameplay instead of going to a loading screen for 30-60 seconds.

they'll just throttle , don't worry... you'll maybe get an average of 4K@60Hz for 15-20min, then you'll be back to good 'ol 30Hz or just drop the resolution like they do currently. best part, people won't even notice in the slightest Wink

on the deal...
holy crap that's expensive for 1TB in an external enclosure. but i guess is on par with their other custom crap they've put out over the years, about double the price of normal equivalent.

I think the real take-away here is that it's PCIe Gen4, which is ~double the data rate of Gen3, and contributes significantly to the cost, as Gen4 SSDs are still fairly expensive.

That said, I'd be interested to see how this drive stacks up in real world testing against the Samsung T5 2TB external SSD. It's about $50 more at MSRP, but twice the capacity.

As someone who pre-ordered both next gen systems, I was planning to use the internal storage for next gen games, and external storage for BC games.
