Couldn't agree with this more. If you're buying a TV for its OS, you're going to have a bad time. Prioritize picture quality above all else.
I stand corrected. For some reason I thought they added 120 support for the m8. Been looking at too many TVs this week. Personally I grabbed a Sony 900h from the AAFES deal in prep for my PS5

This tv has incredible color depth, if you want to watch lots of 4k hdr movies, this is a terrific choice.
The "SmartCast" platform is not nearly as slow as someone stated, any lag it has doesn't ever bother me. It's a very short time spent that you're finding the actual app you want, and the actual apps run as well as they are developed; so Netflix and AppleTV for example run silky smooth. I've only had to reboot the tv maybe three times, which was easy, and that's with eight months of what I'd call a shameful amount of usage. Overall, I find the platform useful, and it keeps adding new apps, so I know it's being worked on.
Casting works great from both android and iOS, and my google assistant can take a command like "Play Space Force from Netflix on the TV", and it'll start, or resume where I left off, within a matter of seconds.
My only gripe is a manageable one, for me. The tv could use some more brightness on its backlight, especially with HDR.
If I don't have the curtains drawn in the daytime, I have to switch picture modes(one button on remote) to use the one that I custom saved with a lower gamma value, and also remember to switch back at night.
I was in the same situation as you were in. I ended up waiting for the Vizio M8. The real black friday sale are around the corner.
