I'm on the 20GB GSMA plan... it expires on 11/17 so I can buy this now and apply it in November, but I can't really wait for a Black Friday sale the following week UNLESS I'm willing to buy a one-month code to extend my service into December to see if there's going to be a sale or not.
Thing is... the least expensive 1 month plan that has at least 5GB of data is $30. So unless I *know* there's going to be a Black Friday sale and I *know* that the price will be discounted at least $30 less than the current $300 sale price, it's not really in my best interest to roll the dice and wait.
The price is terrific, but the timing is hitting me right in a "hole" in my plan and I'm having a difficult time justifying NOT just pulling the trigger on this right now. What am I missing
I had the same issue last year, but simply let my account run out for a month or so before the BF specials. They kept my number and account, so I was able to simply renew for another year. By doing so, you line up your renewal with BF specials going forward, so to me it's worth it. If you need something to tide you over, I have ATT prepaid $2/day plan and Xfinity $12/gig plans, along with wifi or Facetime/imessage for Apple friends. Your other option is to simply buy now and use the 45 day limit on activation in order to get your plan expiration lined up for future years at the end of November.
Can the phone be used as a hotspot? I did not see this information on the website.
Yes, it absolutely can. I use mine for that frequently, though if you're doing it for the first time you may need to contact a CSR to have them provision your plan appropriately.

Hmmm... something certainly worth considering. I already have my current code purchased but have a month before needing to apply it.... thanks.

I know this is slickdeals, but stop overthinking the renewal to save a few bucks. This is your important cell phone plan, not an ice cream subscription

Welcome to last week's post. Lol. Might want to read the whole thread.
What's the data speeds you get? I have AT&T prepaid and get over 90 Mbps with only 4 bars of signal strength. At times I get over 100 mbps. I used to have straight talk earlier with at&t ($45 unltd plan) and it never went over 10 mbps. That seems to suggest at&t has throttling at the mvno level though everything is supposedly LTE
I got good speeds when I was on ST via AT&T. A little better now with AT&T prepaid but I was with Mint for a little while in between, so the difference might be attributed to time and upgrades. No exact numbers but much better than 10 mbit then, and I never suspected I was being throttled.
Not sure what to do now. My year of AT&T expires just before Black Friday. Redpocket looks good, since I know I can use AT&T and only get 8 gigs form them direct. AT&T does include rollover though, and I rarely approach 8 gigs in a month, so far. And though I don't normally need support, being able to go through AT&T is an advantage (however slight). Mint was mostly pretty great for me but spotty at work (and nowhere else).
Warning on the wiki. Wifi calling is not supported on many phones on the GSMA ATT variant.
If I have AT&T prepaid now with working wifi calling, is there any means or reason for Redpocket to block it? Or is it just that not all phones support wifi calling on AT&T's network? I do not have an official AT&T phone - it's an LG that was originally on Sprint and flashed to be a US Cellular variant, but it supports AT&T's network just fine.

It is not red pocket who blocks it It is AT&t. I can't give you any feedback on LG. I haven't seen any comments from their owners. I can just say that Google and Samsung unlocked phones tend to have the issues. They get many complaints from Reddit forms etc.
If it's an important feature for you I would just get a month plan and try it out separate from your other phone plan before porting over. At least if you had planned on getting the yearly plan.

This isn't working on Verizon. I posted my chat on another RP recent thread where the rep said they would get back to me and I also sent you a PM, but no reply yet.
