This is the lowest price for this lens on all Sony authorized sellers. I ordered from Amazon, but if you can find a dealer which has no tax for you, that will be the best option.

Why would you get this over the sigma 24-70 2.8 which is same price?

I got this lens off ebay (used) for $860 in September. It's a good lens. Not good for dark photography obviously, but for general walk around pictures it does a decent job and it takes sharp pictures. I'm not in love with it yet and have even considered trying something else. It did get me to missing wider angle lenses (I don't like the 24mm on this lens) so I grabbed the Tamron 17-28. But that OSS is so nice it's hard to let that go.

.. It's a different focal range, it's native to Sony, and has OSS, for starters.

Pretty much regular price on eBay for brand new. Can get it for less slightly used. Not a great deal tbh.

I just rented both trying to decide between the two. I'm more of a prime shooter so I don't think I'll end up buying either. But if I was going to buy one it would be the sigma. The sigma has tons of character and works well indoors but was noticeably heavier. The slower Sony was kinda weak when shooting indoors but felt much more portable. Give me the sigma in the sony body and I'd be sold.

It also really depends on what you use it for. One might prefer this over than a heavier lens especially when you are travelling

Yes. Videographers prefer this one for the focal range, OSS, and native lens means faster, quieter autofocus.

This is my first lens after the kit for A7III, and I went for a bit extended focal length. My idea of photography is just as an hobbyist and I am planning to buy Sony's 70-200mm and 200-600m lenses over time.

For that matter I heard Tamron's 28-75mm is very good lens and that has 25% cash back right now if you use Amazon Store credit card.

The extended focal length is very near nice to have as well. I still can't decide for my a73 body what is best, I might buy from Amazon and try with holiday extended return policy available.

Thanks, I actually did not notice the extended return period till you mentioned. I will keep it in mind if I change my mind in future or if any better deal comes (which I doubt though).
