Amazon.com: Dell S2721QS 27 Inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS Ultra-Thin Bezel Monitor, AMD FreeSync (HDMI, DisplayPort), VESA Certified, Silver: Computers & Accessories
Mod Price Update: $303.94

I was shopping for a new home use and gaming monitor, and I was about to get the LG 27UL500-W, which is a Prime deal for $299.99, but then I noticed this Dell 27" 4k HDR Freesync IPS monitor, which is comparable - however the Dell has higher brightness (350 cd/m^2), contrast (1300:1), slightly wider sGRB color gamut, thinner bezel and a much better stand (adjustable height/tilt/rotation vs fixed) for the same price. It even includes speakers as a bonus.

After a little further research this seems to me like the better buy, and at $299.99 is lower than previous posts for this Dell.

This is a new monitor but there have been early reports (including in photos posted in a recent slickdeals thread) of uneven brightness near the edges.
This is true. I just received this monitor yesterday and noticed that it is visibly darker near the left and right edges. It's really noticeable on a solid white background where it starts getting darker about an inch or so before the edge. I'm going to return it.

Bought this at Amazon roughly 2 weeks ago. Happy with it so far. Noticed that for the mac users, you will need additional dp cables to reach 4K 60hz. Using the default hdmi cable only gives you 30hz.
what kind of dp cable (brand) should i buy to get 4K 60 hz? Thanks.

I almost 100% positive that the included HDMI cable will work fine for 4k@60 Hz.

I happened to have an old (not fancy) DP cable lying around so I hooked mine up through that. I'm in the middle of something otherwise I would test over HDMI and confirm that. But at least for DP, you don't need a special cable.

I think that post was intended for Mac Users connecting to HDMI via USB C hub/dock due to bandwidth limitations with that particular setup

Edit: I have since tested the included HDMI cable and I can confirm it runs 4k@60 Hz correctly.

Depends what you mean by good. I mean it'll work with it, but if you're expecting all the bells and whistles, then no (I mean it's $300).

This doesn't have HDMI 2.1 for starters.

I dont expect high end hdr visuals, but I do want the visuals to look really good with next gen quality. I saw an LG UL600 at bestbuy that looked pretty good to my eyes, though I'm sure the hdr on it isnt as good as a high end monitor or tv.

Do you think it'll be a lot better than my current asus 1080p 60hz ips monitor? I currently use a ryzen 3600 with a 1660 ti for pc gaming. I'm not a competitive gamer so I'm ok with 60hz for 4k resolution. So hdmi 2.1 isnt that big of a deal for me right now. Maybe in the future.

Yes this will be an upgrade. The picture quality is in line with that LG if you go back earlier in the thread.

Great monitor but you're not future proofing yourself at 4K@60hz. As long as you aren't thinking that, it's probably a good deal.

This time last year the 27" Dell 1080p 144hz monitor was about $250 so we're getting there. We don't even have HDMI 2.1 monitors yet.

OK price, but after having USB-C with power port, which eliminates the need for a docking station and/or a laptop power supply, I can't go back. In the near future, most monitors except for the lowest priced ones will have USB-C with power.

I own a pair of these and absolutely love them. I bought one and and it made my older (cheap) Asus 27" look so bad, I had to have a second. It doesn't have all of the bells and whistles but it does have 4k60 and HDR (which is nothing to write home about).

Bottom line, really nice 4K displays for $300 - and speakers for basic sound... even if they are weak.
