At $1700 we are getting very close to LG CX or Sony A8H. Why would someone get this?
The Q90T is an amazing TV. If you're buying for a well lit room you, should go this route instead of the OLED.

I kinda feel that way about OLED considering the panel technology hasn't changed year over year. Need to solve the burn-in and brightness issues. I have my fingers crossed for QOLED or uLED.
Haven't 100% solved burn in issues but it's extremely difficult to get any noticeable burn. Rtings tried for over 10k hours on recent models with static images and no burn in. If i could make sweet love to an OLED tv i would, the PQ is that amazing

I know that OLED is technically better, but I'm looking to get something bigger than my current 75" Sony. With OLED, that's simply not possible yet for less than $8k+. I'm considering the 82" Q70T. rtings seems to think it's fine -- only one tenth less rating than my current Sony. HDMI 2.1 features are important to me for PS5 / XBSX consoles. Any thoughts?

rtings likes the Q70R better than the Q70T if you can find it.

Im in the same hunt for a TV with HDMI 2.1 for the upcoming PS5. This Q series is about the only ones i can find that have it. I would say the Q80T over the Q70T though, as it adds better speakers, better viewing angle, full array backlighting (instead of the Q70T's edge lighting), and handles glare better. Perhaps these extras are less important if you are in a darker room though. All the Q's have Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) too, which is a bonus. The HDMI 2.1 and VRR is only on one port though, so make sure to use the right one (its clearly labeled), but causes a problem if you have a new PS5 and a new Xbox at the same time. The PS5 will be able to do 4k at 120hz, hence the need for the HDMI 2.1 standard. Not sure if any games will actually be using that full power though. These TVs also have their "motion rate 240" and game enhancer mode to help too. Its also a native 120Hz panel. Either way, this is the TV to beat right now to capture the full ability of the next gen game consoles. Hopefully we see some deals on black friday.

I've got a guy at a pawn shop ~1 hour from me saying he's got a brand new, unopened 75" Q80T that he'll sell me for $1700, tax included. Thoughts on this? I'm a bit scared to make that kind of purchase from a pawn shop, but the price is drastically lower than what I'd get elsewhere. He says the guy who sold him the TV for it from the Military Exchange, so theoretically there should be an active 1 year warranty effective from the original purchase date, FWIW.

Any advice would be appreciated - please talk me down lol

Unfortunately yes. I saw this deal when posted and waited too long to pull the trigger

These deals were okay at the beginning of October, but with two weeks to go until Thanksgiving, Samsung QLEDs are quite overpriced compared to their 2019 counterparts this time last year.

LG CX looks like your watching TV on a black mirror. The screen shows every light source in the room and its too dim to compensate. As for the Sony A8. That set doesn't even have 2.1 HDMI.
