Oh lord! $1600 just for the body? I bought a used Canon digital Elph from eBay then bought a leather couch for my college age daughter and still had $$$$ left over for a shrimp cocktail. Glad to have a canon. And as a bonus...free med fries with the purchase of a large drink at McDonald's!
Other than the fact that the Sony A7C is full frame - please explain your reasoning that it's a better camera than the XT4.
Google or youtube full frame versus aps-c. You can get an explanation with videos created by experts. Just look at the specs side by side. If you don't understand each spec meaning, look it up.
Haven't really seen reviews for this camera yet but it sounds like it fills a niche I've been looking for. Full-Frame and portable.
There's been a few reviews on YouTube from bloggers and photo blogs. Most critical one was from Jared P, that it uses existing components and technology from 2 years ago, and it's not all that much smaller compared to A7iii.
This will be $1200 by next year. If you don't need it now just wait till next year.
Seriously, this camera is a head scratcher for me. It only makes sense if it is a cheap full frame. Not at 2 G's. And then next year when it is $1200 they will announce the A7IV which will be leaps and bounds better than this for a similar price.

The problem is they WAY overpriced their high end APS-C. The a6600 is ridiculously overpriced so they basically had to price it above that.

For those of you who haven't committed to a system yet. Please really consider full frame vs. APS-C. I'm not knocking full frame at all but the cost of a camera body is just a relatively small part of the cost of this hobby so you need to know what you're getting yourself into. Don't buy too much camera for what you're going to use this for. It's better to go cheap on a body and budget more money towards lenses. Think of camera bodies as cell phones. They'll be outdated within a year and drop in value. Good lenses will hold their value and more importantly utility. Plus you'll get much better results with a cheap body and good glass than the other way around. Full frame lenses by their nature are a lot more expensive and bulky than APS-C.
This is a great video on what you can kind of expect the difference in capability and quality will be for full frame vs. APS-C. Of course there are an almost infinite different situations that would have different results but in general portrait photography is where full frame can really shine. Watch it on a large monitor and not your phone to really appreciate the difference.
This is a totally fine camera and I'm glad it exists. There was a real need for a low-profile FF mirrorless camera that isn't a Leica, both for compactness' sake and for anyone who doesn't enjoy looking like they've got an SLR. I, for one, am not a fan at all of the VF hump. Yes, this is overpriced, but I imagine you'll be able to pick up a used one for under $1k in less than a year, and it'll be worth it.
Also 24mp is enough for plenty of purposes. I've got several 20x30s printed from my original RX1 and they look great.

The a7IV will be at least $2500 at launch. Possibly as high as $3000. I think they are putting out the a7c just to hold people over waiting for the a7IV.
