I have both Costco and Sam's membership. Few advantages with Sam's like
#1: Costco still lacking drive up service which Sam's running very efficiently now.
#2. Fresh product quality better at Sam's
#3: Costco somehow dealing with more Kirkland but Sam's have better standard product range availability.
#4: Few products are cheaper at Sam's like Ziploc, Cascade etc.
Frankly I bought Costco Membership only because of the return policy on some non-food items. In perishables almost everything is cheaper elsewhere. Besides, there is very limited product range.

Do you have to spend all $45 at once?
Signed up in store and received a Sam's gift card for the $45. Told did NOT have to spend all at one time. Have not used it yet.

Funny thing is, when I called Sam's national customer support line - not my local club - I was told the $45 would be subtracted from my first purchase and that you would need to buy at least $45 worth of goods. Since my sister was the new member but I was paying for the membership, this might have been an issue since would need to use her card in order to tap into that kind of rebate. I think a gift card can be used by any member, not just one person.

Maybe the rules are different in different locations. Call your local Sam's Club and ask if this is a concern.

You couldn't be anymore wrong. Don't give out false information.
I do find it frustrating when Sam's prices are slightly higher than WalMart and the stores are across the street from each other. This is the exception rather than the rule, however. If you pay for a membership, I think that every comparable product should be cheaper at Sam's; it isn't.

Costco is better overall. Still things at Sam's that Costco just doesn't carry tho.
Also, in my area, the closest store is a Sam's, which is in a medium sized city and usually not very busy when I go. Every Costco around me is in a larger city, a little further away, and always so crowded I can barely stand it. One time the crowd along with the cart I had, which had a bad wheel that was driving me nuts, made me just leave mid-shopping trip in a 'F This' moment. I can't stand dealing with crowds to shop. So for this reason, and it's very regional I realize, I prefer Sam's.

Ever since they closed the Sam's Club by my house I vowed never to go back. I'm only rejoining because it's basically free. They are better with many basic staple items than Costco is.

Great deal! Better than those in the past because it's just cash. The Groupons in the past would have you picking up cookies or a pizza which is not something I would normally buy.

Signed up on the 26th. In-store credit was available and used at the store on the 27th. Make sure you go through a regular register and not the Scan & Go app. I also realized there is no point for me to pick up an actual membership card when I can just present the barcode in the Sam's Club app.

Not true, Costco has higher quality produce mainly because a lot of their stuff is organic now for pretty much the same price as at Sam's we buy green beans at Costco it's hands down the best quality and price than any other store.
I've had both and Sam's is a far ways ahead in the produce. There's is always fresh, with the greenest lettuce, freshest apples, bananas are usually under ripe, but bruise-free and look remarkable in 3 or 4 days.

If you are big on buzzwords and soundbites, but really aren't a reader or a thinker, you may bandy around the "organic" buzzword. Studies have shown that approximately the same pesticide residue exists on conventional and organic crops. "Organic" pesticides have been found to generally be more dangerous than conventional pesticides as well.

Basically everything covered in this Forbes article is why I don't really buy into the hype:

I have both Costco and Sam's. I always get this Sam's deal. It always comes out free with deals like these. After going to Sam's and Costco's for 10+ years I have found some items at Sam's that I can't find at Costco. If I could only choose 1 membership it would probably be Costco but I really like Sam's too. I love the scan and go at Sam's. It really beats out having to wait in checkout to pay. Also the hotdogs are way better at Sam's lol.
I am a Costco shopper as well I was motivated to get a membership again due to the fact I Was driving over 40 miles one way to do my grocery shopping at Sprouts in order to try to avoid Monsanto type GMO products. I read about all the organic items Costco was offering these days and since Costco is less than 5 miles from home, I found it totally worth it until I recently learned Bill Gates is on the COSTCO board!! What is a computer geek doing getting involved with seeds, and pesticides on top of a computer Geek with no medical background to speak of not only getting heavily involved in vaccines (many pf which have caused great harm to children around the world). As if that is not strange enough, this man warned us about a pandemic years before we somehow ended up in a so called pandemic (so strange the man must know magic or be psychic)he has specifically said he wanted to use vaccines to reduce population and is the son of the former head of planned parenthood, and a known Eugenicist!!!!!!!!! What in hell would possibly motivate this man to be on the board of a Corp. that sells not only food in bulk, but organic food in bulk? Organic is clearly or should clearly be in complete opposition of his monsanto frankenstein GMO crap he produces and I find this seriously disturbing and I just find I no longer trust the foods that Costco sells, I'm happy to try Sams membership for free though it seems I am once again going to be driving to do most my grocery shopping again at Sprouts and can only pray he does not somehow end up with his evil paws in that company as well! PLEASE, before you jump to his defense as I know many people have been blinded by fear and are sadly looking at this man as our Christl like savior, do a little research first, Happy Holidays!

How do we get this to work as a prior member? I have tried different e-mail addresses, getting hung up at checkout.

Yep. My consumption or usage habit does not justify paying Costco $60 annual membership. I don't need a gallon of mayonnaise.

Pretty much agree. Also, as full as the Costco parking lots are, it's hard to dismiss the idea that someone in that store has the virus. I'd rather not be in such a large crowd.
