I think that is a pretty good rule of thumb. Mostly it comes down to wrist size.

However the bigger screen does make it easier to see (messages) and tap.

That's pretty much what goes. But I agree it is more wrist size than sex.

Keep in mind the screen and battery are smaller. My wife's watch dies way before mine. I'd get her the 44 , but it would look big and silly. IMO. (I offer every year and she wants to keep the mallet one)
