i can see why they're clearancing these. this is 1" larger than carry on size. why would they make a case like that?
I've had this same one for like 5 years, several trips overseas. It is hard, it does protect your laptop very well. I can fit a lot in it. It just on the heavier side. But very well built, I would buy it again at that price since I paid $300, but mine still looks good after this long. I recommend it 100%.
People commenting in this thread have had this luggage for many years. A lot of airlines used to have larger carry-on sizes. Now it varies airline to airline. These fit Southwest or JetBlue, but not United or Spirit, for example.

And in my limited experience, most airlines don't really check. As long as they fit in the overhead you're fine. In a dozen flights in the past few years I've never seen one of those "your bag must fit in this metal contraption" things used.

I'm sure it happens, but you can do everything right and still get your carry-on bumped to check. I'm pretty paranoid about having my personal/carry-on within spec, but I have had my carry-on switched to checked because they ran out of overhead space.

How well would this actually protect a MacBook, does it have some sort of special padding?

This is a pretty awesome deal. I had one many years ago and loved it. The front gloss scratches like crazy but I had some fun and put stickers from all the places where it went. The part I loved is being able to open it up and lay it flat on the X-ray and not having to take out my computer. I've since signed up for TSA Precheck so that's no longer a concern. Definitely recommend at this price!

Yeah I own this too and purchased at a much higher price, this is a nice deal. I share the same sentiments as the above owners as well.

They don't really allow that anymore I don't think. You have to take all electronics out no matter what. tsa precheck excluded

As much as I am looking for a travel case, I think this is smaller than the standard case right? For me, I am planning to use it for Magic: The Gathering conventions. I have a camera backpack like most, but cards and decks are heavy and just having something to roll around with my laptop would be nice. On a side note, is use it for my monthly travels as well.
