I used to have the 2017 version of this tablet and I really liked it until I dropped it from 6 feet onto concrete and cracked the screen. One of the underrated features of this device is that the charging port is on the side, not on the top, so you can hold it in landscape mode while its charging and the cable wont block your hand. I miss this feature on my 2018 iPad. Also the Geekbench score is 1400 / 5400, which is incredible for $80.

2 GB memory and 32 GB storage in 2020 is pretty bad, especially with Amazon services running in the background.

I just upgraded from the 2017 version to this one. Both were debloated and Googlefied using the Amazon Toolbox. No comparison, the 2019 is twice as fast in this way. It's actually MUCH better and usable. I'm super happy with the upgrade, worth every penny. Plus, the 2019 version doesn't delay when you hit the home button. It's basically a fully Google tablet for the price. Never had any memory issues either.

For a reader and web browser using Chrome, you can't beat this deal for sure. Not sure for games, but don't be a loser and play games on your tablet anyway. Get an Oculus Quest. Smilie

This is the most recent model of the 10", with USB-C, and this is tied for the lowest price it has been. Possible but not for sure it will be the same price on Amazon around Black Friday sales, or Amazon may price match BB shortly.

The 64gb version still has only 2gb of ram and costs $120. If you want a cheap tablet to have lying around, this is a good option combined with the Fire Toolbox software from XDA, which can remove ads, do some debloat, add Google play store and a number of other things. If you don't want to use the toolbox, you can just ask Amazon cs to remove ads and they will for free.

If you want a tablet for more regular use, I'd look at more powerful options, but this is well known as a really good bang for buck option unless you want to deep dive into Chinese imports (if you do, I recommend the Alldocube iplay 20, but that's a whole other category).
Actually, the tablet would performed better if it wasn't for Amazon crippling the Android OS.

Ordered this for pick up. Cancelled Amazon order which had a pending ship date. Adds to my BB rewards points anyway. Going to download fire toolbox from XDA and make it look like stock android. Win win!

Two clicks using Amazon Toolbox and it's not crippled and all Amazon is removed. So, uh, no.

On the charging port issue: Look into 90° or 180° cables.

The 90° cables will more likely work with a case, but the 180° cables are more desirable in that they wrap around the device and run out the back.

FYI.

I have 3 IPads, 2 Fire tablets and 2 kindles.

on Prime day, I bought the 10.1 Kids Kindle on sale $ 129, same price as Best Buy, and another $40 off for trade in, plus the value of my trade in. The 20% off comes off the full price, of $ 199, not the sale price, making these fantastic deals. I also bought the Kindle Oasis, same trade in deal.

I got the Kids Kindle for myself. I already had the 7 inch Kids Kindle for my grandchildren. I loved the indestructible easy to hold Kids Kindle, which also includes a 2 year, covers everything warranty. The case alone sells for $ 35. It's a thick rubbery case. My grandson dropped it on a tile floor, and it just bounced,

I am new to Slickdeals and I don't know how to add a deal, but they also now have the Echo Show 8 for $64.99 and if you scroll down a little bit the $5 indoor security camera is on there as well! This is just like the prime day deal and wasn't there earlier today or yesterday when I looked. Of course, they have the Echo show 5 also for $44.xx. I hope this helps. I know this isn't about the fire tablet but I just thought maybe one of you all may want to add it. 😊
Thank you and Welcome to Slickdeals!

Bloated and slow out of the box. Amazon toolbox, 5 minutes of my time, and my kids are happy. Appears to be faster than the 4th gen iPad it replaced

How much better is the new samsung a7 for $90 more.. I feel for my needs this is sufficient.. just streaming youtube and YouTube tv mostly and web browsing. No gaming or anything intensive. I have the 8" HD (not plus) of this tablet for my kids and loaded the Amazon toolbox which is nice and debloats everything. For them it's perfectly fine, for me I find it laggy and the screen isn't that great but from what I've read this would be faster with a better screen

I got three HD10s last year - one for me and two for my parents. I removed the ads and installed the play store with toolbox. The biggest drawback for them is that there is no way to cast from the Amazon device, not even to an Amazon stick. Even third party apps were unable to do so across popular services (Plex, Netflix. Amazon Video).

I was going to use mine for content consumption (browsing, mostly) but the modern web has resulted in multi-second loads and 1-2 sec reaction time to clicks which, compared with my three year old phone, is just frustratingly slow and unresponsive. I found the built-in browser essentially unusable and installed Dolphin, which was better but still sluggish on complex sites. It's a dedicated status panel for my 3D printer (via Octoprint) now. For the $70 I pad after trade in of an OG iPad, I don't feel cheated, but I wouldn't want to use it for anything complex or interactive.
