Not a bad deal for the specs. Upgradeable ram and SSD and IPS screen. Brightness and color remains the low points.

Since not a gamer, this seemed like a nice deal, but please be informed and read the Q and A because the Specs for this on the Dell site are misleading as far as screen info, here is a copy of just one of 10 answers to the screen:

Well when I asked about it early this morning, I was told it was 220 nits. I also informed the DELL support operator that they should be updating this thread as well as informing the customer better about the screen specs they were ordering as it was extremely misleading as well as vague as to what one was purchasing in that regard.
and:
Both the 4500u and 4700u screens are 220 nits and 45 ntsc. Wide-viewing angle screens.

The ram is 8 GB in one of 2 slots, upgrade able to 32GB

Can add another SSD up to 2 TB

Just would not be good enough for occasional bright room or outside use. Otherwise would have gone for it, will keep looking.

I feel like there are a bunch of us looking for the same thing. $600-800 range, best value for buck. Ultimately, prefer 15inch.... I want a good, newer processor, 16gb ram, good screen, touch screen preferred, SSD.

The display quality is poor and the brightness is very poor, around 250 nits. Maybe indoor usage is suitable but outdoor usage will be a problem.

It has a good processor, you can make it 16GB Ram pretty easily, rather than paying a lot extra for 16GB Ram Laptop. Anyway, the display is bad and it is dim as well.

The other weakness of this is having only one stick of memory in it. If I remember correctly, and please correct me if I'm wrong, Ryzen really need two sticks for dual channel. It otherwise really hurts performance.

I bought this last time it was on sale for $590. Mainly use it for remote desktop into my work PC and light internet browsing. Couldn't be happier. Memory and SSD is upgradable, but I'm not even close to reaching either limits.

Upgrade the RAM since I think the GPU will take 2GB of that 8GB. Great deal otherwise. Inspirons seem to be better quality than they were 10 years ago.

Idk why people think this only applies to AMD.. single vs dual channel is a weakness in Intel systems too with single channel ram installed too. Onboard cpu storage is piddly because of the need to pack nodes full of compute substrate. Ddr4 is merely an evolution of what's come before. There are no revolutionary steps being taken in tech desktop pc tech no matter how much wall street backed hype there is. Making ssd drives mainstream was probably the only relevant changeover in the last 20 years.

It does not take 2GB by default. the VEGA iGPU in 4000 series allocates only 512MB by default and can increase dynamically based on the graphics requirements. You can force it to use 2GB from BIOS but that does not do any noticeable performance increase during gaming over 512MB default. I have both IdeaPad 5 14 with Ryzen 7 4700U and 16GB DDR4 and ThinkPad T14 with 32GB of Ram and 4750u and tested.
That 2GB default is true for the older 3000 series APUs.

This is the one to get if you're comfortable performing upgrades and want usb c with power delivery and display port for docking.

How is the battery life on it? I don't see any rating listed on the site.
