Edit#3 - Mini 2 just got launched. Price and specs as leaked - https://store.dji.com/product/mini-2
Mavic Mini 2 - $449
Mavic Mini 2 Fly More Combo - $599
------------------- No announcement to my knowledge yet and of course not for sale yet; but I know many of us are interested and looking forward to the Mavic Mini2.
Accidentally bumped into the pricing -
Still love my Spark but it's about time for an upgrade. Glad I didn't get the mini now.
One thing keeping me away from the Mini is the lack of Active Track+obstacle avoidance (and gestures) completely knocked it out of contention as an upgrade.
I don't know why they discontinued the Spark and not offer a suitable upgrade.... Those features were a major major selling point and critical to the average Spark user.
I haven't read much about the Mini 2, but if they bring these features back, I might finally upgrade.

I heard the Litchi App supports some kind of "follow me" for Mavic Mini. Anyone here tried that?
So true. I've been a photography and aviation buff for as long as I can remember. Saw drones being used everywhere and went for the Mavic 2 Pro thinking I'd be using it multiple times per week, which I totally would if... it were legal in more places. Turns out the rules are quite restrictive (many rightly so, but some are head-scratchers). Those beautiful wedding shots where you see everyone from above throwing rice? Illegal (nope, waivers and consent don't matter they say, it's like waiving to not wearing a seat belt, can't be done).
Flying in national parks to get a view of the scenery? Illegal.
Briefly crossing over any road with traffic? Illegal.
Over any people not directly controlling the drone? Illegal.
Flying without your eyeballs directly on the drone? Illegal. So all of those cool clips where you ride your bike through a path, or walk along a beach, using the "follow me" feature are breaking the law. There's very little interesting stuff to do without looking through the screen (unless you have a spotter).
The FAA is now going to require drones to have ADS-B which is a transponder that tells a third-party the coordinates of the drone and info of the flyer. DJI and all legit drone makers will have to comply with this for drones over 250g.
The mini is less than 250g meaning it doesn't need to be registered, but it is not exempt from the laws regarding where it's legal to fly. While it doesn't have ADS-B, we can be sure DJI's software keeps a log of flight paths which they will share if required by the authorities.
Sold my M2P after realizing that even folks online are quick to report your video if they see anyyy violation. I wasn't planning to break the rules, but the negative environment even among users soured me. General public's opinion on drones is quite poor now also, and they more and more report you for "bothering" them even though you are totally legal. Get an experienced cop and you're fine, but not all are versed in drone law. The interaction alone is no fun even when you prevail. Look up a forum called "mavic pilots" for more on all of this.
In summary, just check to see what areas around you are legal to fly in. I live near a big city so there are pockets here and there but basically zero at all of the cool places. The DJI software won't let you take off if you're in a restricted area. If you're area is fine you can have a blast and take amazing shots, just gotta decide how legal you plan to be.
That is totally true in developed countries. However in the 3rd world there isn't almost any restriction. You can fly anywhere.
Nice find, that's why Amazon is dumping Mavic Mini 1 stock during Prime Day sale. I've told people to wait for the Mini 2 to drop so the Mini 1 price would go down even further.
bought one on prime day but now thinking of rather wait for new one. haven't used it yet so back it goes.

Wait for Mini 3 to release and the 1 will drop even further

They gotta add active Track or some type of follow-me feature.
It's one of the main reasons to get it for biking, hiking, driving... If it does I'm in for one do to its size and weight. Under the FAA required weight limits

I hear you. I am leaning towards the refurbished mavic air fly more package for $599; but if mini2 adds some compelling features, it might be worth the wait.

Gotta remember they are 1g under the FAA weight requirement so unless they can shave off even more weight from hardware and/or make upgrades only via software.. it's going to be quite difficult to still package it all <250g .
good luck flying this anywhere except 5 feet in front pf you then hitting a geo fence then flying again for 5 more feet until another geo fence then getting frustrated and ebaying it. worse, take it on vacation only to find you cant fly it anywhere without a permit which costs money. you swear off drones and buy a gopro hero 9
