I got this for my son as an early Xmas present. For what he needs it works great and he should get a few years out of it. I agree the backlight and the silver keys was a bad idea. Wish they was rgb to change the colors like on my Alienware. Plus wish the keys wasn't so flat. It does get the job done and was looking g at getting one also. Yet it not what I'm looking for. I personally like it without a webcam as I never use one. In all it's not bad for the price.

May be. It's either AMD not making enough CPU or Intel trying to play bad by stopping manufacturer making Ryzen laptops.

they just can't make enough - they had their quarterly earnings report yesterday, their sales are through the roof, and every chip is called for. No surplus at all.

Yes, that is a sweet deal and better power (with rtx 2080) for the extra price,...I'd take that over this too.
. But those open box hidden lucky ymmv deals are hard to find for most people.

This is still better for the masses who are looking for an all purpose "very portable light weight" laptop that doesn't cost too much more over $1000, and still have 8+hrs battery life.

..not just a power hungry 4.5 - 7lb pc that gets 3-5 hrs battery and a little less portability...though i'd take the power too, just like you, since i don't really need 3.5lb portability.

My certified unit just got delivered from Best Buy. Unit was fully dead of power would not even boot up until plugged into power source. Not good practice..
What is the program advised to run to determine prior usage of device please can someone tell me thank you!
As person above me just noted, silver labeling letters on silver keyboard is ludicrous terrible idea
Anyone have Experience using the MyASUS software in this thing? Wondering if I should run it

Gotcha. Well, FWIW, I just bought this laptop and am using it now. The keyboard lighting is MUCH better. It's still mediocre. It's worse than any other keyboard I've used still, but now it's legible. Went from a 1/10 to a 6/10, which is a big difference.

My manufacturing date is August, btw.

Agree with all of this. But I am currently using a USB-C to DP cable and it works perfectly. You just gotta make sure to use the left-side USB-C port, the right-side USB-C doesn't support displayport.

To bad my TV's don't have display port as that seems to be the better than hdmi.
Mine has August manufacture date. Harddrive is wdc sn530 sdbpnz. Is this the faster hard drive?

So if you are going to buy an open box unit, make sure to check the manufacturing date listed on the sticker at the bottom of the laptop.

My G14 has a manufactured date of 8/2020, although the lighting on the keyboard is not individually lit it looks much better than the display model at the store. There is also no recessed Keys like others have reported.

Does anybody here have issues regarding the sharpness of the g14 screen? When I was running videos side by side against my other laptops, I notice the g14 screen just doesn't have the same sharpness as other 1080p screens. Things look slightly but noticeably more blurry on the g14, and enough for me to think about returning it. Am I the only one with this issue?

Let's be honest. All laptops have their pros and cons, so no ideal laptop here.
But Asus is known for including bad screens with their laptops.
Particularly this laptop has the best screen inside of asus laptops, with a few drawbacks.
Your problem of sharpness is coming from matte screen while you are comparing it to glossy screens. Matte is good for your eyes, good for working under sun/lamp, less reflective. As a con it has less colors and blurry image. Considered to be better premium option over standard glossy screens. So if you don't like it then you need to look for something glossy.
UPD2. If you are looking for truly unbeatable experience with displays, then you are looking at either Macbooks or Dell, Lenovo 4k offerings.
My 2012 MBP 13 has better screen than this zephyrus in terms of colors/sharpness. But i don't like that it is glossy, so switching over to win laptops.
