The extra prongs on the HP batteries are for communication to the tool. They tell compatible brushless tools it's safe for them to draw more current from the battery. In practice this means a brushless tool coupled with an HP battery will bog down less under heavy load.

So, from what I understand, if I am powering slow drain items like lights or fans then these would be cheaper and just as effectively the HP models?

Check out homedepot.com and click on local ads - they have posted their Black Friday ad - starts 11/8 and goes to December (appliances start 11/4).

This was one of the Ryobi deals that they had posted. Some decent tool deals - Ryobi, DeWalt, and other brands.

I bought 2 of this HP with a FREE tool for $79 from last year deals. Will wait until this deal come back again.

Went Ryobi 18 v nuts this year after buying my first home. Happy with the decision.
Power Tools, fans, pool speakers, all kinds of lighting products and inverters, and 6 port charger purchased from Home Depot Direct Tools Plus.
After looking at the BF ad, not much Ryobi deals happening IMHO. I will wait to see if the 2X 4 ah batt + free tool comes around again during the next Ryobi Days event.
Not sayiing I would return the One handed Recipricating Saw (Model #PSBRS01B) or Belt Sander (Model #P450) I am looking at If my GF gets me them for Christmas.

these batteries are great. purchased a couple of 2 packs of them a couple years ago during a sale. still going strong. no issues charging/recharging them.

we have a few of the 6ah ones too and they work just as well.

wish a sale would come along for the 9ah ones for certain tools like our one+ 12" chainsaw and leaf blower....

Is home depot not doing the 2 batteries for 99 + free tool this year? I noticed in the black friday preview there was no mention of it but for other brands there was.

I have a lot of older Ryobi tools (pre lithium) that came in a massive set. The batteries make them useless. I was wondering if it's worthwhile upgrading the batteries for old tools for $100 or buying a new set when I can. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The deal I am looking at would be this one that comes with a charger

If it were me I'd use the tools until either they die or the batteries die and any new tool I need I would get the on new Ryobi One+ system.
