I can get the JBL - BAR 9.1-Channel 820W Soundbar System with 10" Wireless Subwoofer and Dolby Atmos, 4K and HDR Support - Black (Open Box) for about the same price of this one, brand new.
Is anyone else concerned about the high return rate (evidenced by the prevalence of open box items) for this brand new product with no track record and little third party reviews?
I only purchase. BEst Buy open box. I get a gift receipt and register the Warranty. It's as good as new. And I get an extra 15% off by haggling in store which can only be done on open box items. Vizio is a trusted quality brand it gets the job done. Sure it's not Sony, but I won't pay Sony's high prices. Besides this level of sound bar needs 3 things to work which not everyone has.
#1. A tv with eARC
#2. A movie mastered with Dolby Atmos (few are)
#3. Proper positioning of the rear satellite speakers and Soundbar
It's magical it's also my first Dolby Atmos purchase.

not really - theres a lot of buyers remorse the higher the price is for a product. Some people's living rooms also might not be ideal for the atmos this requires (certain height ceilings, flat ceilings) - so if it didn't work well enough for them, they are more likely to return it. Honestly, if my $480 open box ships and theres a product defect on it, ill go through vizio for a warranty swap rather than returning it to best buy and paying full price at that time.
$200 is a steal for that set, only big differences with the elevate is a wider soundstage (longer), rotating upward speakers (may help with positioning), DTS-X, and eArc
The JBL setup has battery operated rear speakers that last 3 hours according to some, which can't last through Avengers:Endgame. Also heard of them constantly losing its connection. So the wireless setup is convenient, but way too buggy and restrictive.
This is a lot of money for a sound bar based system. I personally would buy a $300 receiver and a nice set of bookshelf speakers with good sized woofers rather than this.
Came here to say this too, I didn't even know soundbars got this expensive.
For $700 you could pick up that Jamo set from Amazon and S750H from Costco, get far better sound and still have $150 leftover.
I dont know why people bother coming into sound bar deal posts and try to thread/product crap it. Sound bars are not for everyone - full blown receiver/bookshelf speaker setups are also not for everyone. Im currently renting so Im not wasting time and money to wire speakers all over the place. Additionally, we don't turn up the volume very high, so a higher powered receiver wouldn't benefit much over a soundbar. Also, sound bars just are easier to fit in and more aesthetically pleasing. My wife would not like if I had a big receiver and multiple speakers in the front of us. I could mount the sound bar under my TV, on the wall, and the entire entertainment shelf is open for consoles, pictures, etc. So getting her to agree to buy an upgraded sound system is much easier with a soundbar.
Who should get a soundbar
If you want better sound than you're getting from your TV's built-in speakers but you don't want to piece together a variety of separate components (such as an AV or stereo receiver and a speaker package), a soundbar is the way to go. Separate components almost always provide better performance for your dollar, but they also take up more space and require additional cables, and their operation is more complicated. A good soundbar strikes a balance between performance and convenience, delivering improved sound quality in a package that's easier to set up and use.
This model was just released last week and it's on sale already? A lot of people praise Vizio but I'm not sure of their quality and dependability. I went with Samsung 70R and have been very happy. Quality and performance are pretty impressive. As for value, find an open box and the problem is solved.
I feel like a lot of people haven't heard a modern sound bar setup. These ain't the soundbars from 10 years ago that were garbage. When I heard one of these vizio units with the wireless sub and surround speakers, I was blown away at the quality for how small it is.
This is coming from a guy who used to spend $1000 just on the receiver, plus thousands on speakers/subs. Give it a shot, you just might like it.
