I dont know why people bother coming into sound bar deal posts and try to thread/product crap it. Sound bars are not for everyone - full blown receiver/bookshelf speaker setups are also not for everyone. Im currently renting so Im not wasting time and money to wire speakers all over the place. Additionally, we don't turn up the volume very high, so a higher powered receiver wouldn't benefit much over a soundbar. Also, sound bars just are easier to fit in and more aesthetically pleasing. My wife would not like if I had a big receiver and multiple speakers in the front of us. I could mount the sound bar under my TV, on the wall, and the entire entertainment shelf is open for consoles, pictures, etc. So getting her to agree to buy an upgraded sound system is much easier with a soundbar.
Who should get a soundbar
If you want better sound than you're getting from your TV's built-in speakers but you don't want to piece together a variety of separate components (such as an AV or stereo receiver and a speaker package), a soundbar is the way to go. Separate components almost always provide better performance for your dollar, but they also take up more space and require additional cables, and their operation is more complicated. A good soundbar strikes a balance between performance and convenience, delivering improved sound quality in a package that's easier to set up and use.
People are just trying to help out, man. Relax. People that have a lifetime of listening to thousands of dollars of good sounding equipment and not so good sounding equipment have perspective that is valuable.
When I was younger, I probably would have fallen for surround sound and Atmos over a quality pair of front speakers too. Most people have no idea how immersive just stereo is. Go to the Atmos youtube demonstrations (that only play in stereo) and laugh at how many people are completely blown away by "Atmos" stereo. If you like soundbars, cool. Still a pair of bookshelves is exactly 2 wires from the receiver. Most people would be way happier with a nice set of bookshelves or towers than this Atmos system and it would cost less. It would do well for TV and be extremely better for music. Then surround could be added later if they wish.
Proper frequency response has nothing to do with the chosen volume level of listening. Bigger speakers and receivers aren't to play louder. They are to properly drive whatever speakers you have. This sound bar is likely louder per watt than many larger speakers. It's almost irrelevant.
People are just giving a different perspective the same as you are. Enjoy the discussion.
I feel like a lot of people haven't heard a modern sound bar setup. These ain't the soundbars from 10 years ago that were garbage. When I heard one of these vizio units with the wireless sub and surround speakers, I was blown away at the quality for how small it is.
This is coming from a guy who used to spend $1000 just on the receiver, plus thousands on speakers/subs. Give it a shot, you just might like it.
They are impressive for a small package, but if one could accommodate bookshelf size speakers, there's way better for the money. I just think people are trying to help others consider some of the alternatives. Some will value design over function and choose the soundbar, and that's cool too.
The JBL setup has battery operated rear speakers that last 3 hours according to some, which can't last through Avengers:Endgame. Also heard of them constantly losing its connection. So the wireless setup is convenient, but way too buggy and restrictive.
The rear speakers supposed to last 10 hours. Anyway, you can use the microUSB for power. From the reviews I read, I have not noticed connection issue. I have been investigating that for several months already. The main issue is the lack of EQ and it does not come with the end caps unless you are in Europe. It has a nice self calibration function too. Another complaint is on the odd shape for any rear speaker stand.
Ive been eyeing this since it was announced. Great price, but I'd really like to see more reviews on it. Ready to toss my LG SK10Y. The center channel and bass are both horrible. I wonder if it will be even cheaper on BF.
Came here to say this too, I didn't even know soundbars got this expensive.
For $700 you could pick up that Jamo set from Amazon and S750H from Costco, get far better sound and still have $150 leftover.

Exactly. Don't be fool by the bar shape. There is a wide range of sound bar systems in price and sound quality. A high quality sound bar system may go beyond $2000. A receiver is not really necessary, particularly when you have a wall mount TV without an AV center. There is an obvious reason why the same brand would have soundbars at around a hundred to over a thousand dollars. If it is the same sound bar as 12 years ago, I don't need to upgrade mine.
My experience with the prior version of this Vizio sound bar was awful. Sound often randomly disconnected and reconnecting was a pain. Went with a Q90r when it was on sale and couldn't be happier. None of the software issues that plagued the Vizio. Hopefully this newer version works out better for folks.
Don't know a lot about this but seems expensive for a sound bar. How is this better than the Yamaha receiver from Costco and a surround sound set from monoprice for less money?
For somebody not picky, would the bundle at $2100 with the oled 65 and these speakers a good deal? Should I wait for bf?
I picked up the bundle today. The good thing is that you have until January to return everything (holiday return policy in effect now). If the price goes down, BB will refund the difference. Or you can buy something else on Black Friday and return these.
Someone smarter than me with these, why the $400 difference from this one? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-5-1-2-channel-soundbar-system-with-6-wireless-subwoofer-and-dolby-atmos-black/6288824.p?skuId=6288824
