I would just buy a used s9+ for $249
I could see that if you're not looking for a 5G phone but reviews aside this phone is in another league performance wise.. Your point is valid in the sense of a broken/unreliable phone is a paperweight.

The real deals for me have been devices that are financed with huge discounts. The last 2 phones were Moto flagships that cost $9.99 per month after bill credit. It's been awhile so i'm sure the game has changed.

I had a Amazon branded Lenovo/Motorola phone way back that I paid around $150 for that lasted forever. I didn't buy a case and beat that thing to hell. Still have it as a backup.

I remember getting excited for a new phone but now it's just a chore when you need a new one. Slightly upgraded specs but all the same BS tech... And fvck fingerprint sensors.

I am using a moto stylus as a backup and that's pretty much free, lol , works for me, but my main phone is flagship so I'm still part of the wagon .

The screen issues with this for are for real and there is no solution from Motorola that I have heard. I went through 2 of them before giving up. Really liked the phone otherwise...
They released a software patch, actually. I owned this phone. I didn't get the severe screen defects like the purple burn marks. Just green tint on low brightness as you see on the OP8, S20, and some other OLED devices.

I ultimately returned mine because for 450 after tax I couldn't justify accepting 1 update. $100 less might change my mind. But Android 11 is very underwhelming...tried it and it's a small upgrade.

Overall I loved the phone, battery easily lasted 2-3 days on LTE, 1.5-2 on 5G. Plus the 3.5mm jack made using earphones so simple. Not many flagships have endurance that comes close, save for the iPhone 11 PM, v60 or S20 Ultra. Speed wise it's no slouch. It has UFS, possibly dual lane 2.x based on r/w speeds.

My next phone will probably be an OP8 or iPhone 12. Apple gives 5yrs of updates, compared to 1 from Moto. That part is tough to accept. They need to get their act together.

If there is a software patch available for the screen issues, they need to make it widely known then since users are still reporting screen issues to this day in the Lenovo forums and Motorola still says they are still trying to figure out the root cause.

Well, that's up to them. If they decide to stay silent that only goes against them. I'm aware of reports from the forums, as I've commented there too. Some believe it's related to the refresh rate (mine stayed on 60).

The waterfall display looks neat in person, haven't owned anything like it. Maybe my N10+ came close, but side bezels are non-existent here. I hope another manufacturer follows suit.

Also apparently 1 developer is getting the phone. So if you care about lineage that might be a reality next year.

Edit: This phone costs the same as a used OP8, so choose carefully.

Pocofone F2 Pro has faster Snapdragon 865 chip and is $399 and OnePlus 7T with faster Snapdragon 855+ is also $399. Both areon ebay. This should be around $200 to be competitive with other 765G phones.
The Pocofone doesn't have many US bands

Expired for now. Back up to $699 at Motorola and Amazon. I have a feeling it may be back at $399 or maybe even $349 for BF or thereabouts.

Well shoot, I'm on day 2 and already problems. The "home" button at the bottom doesn't work at all much of the time. Even after restart. Though sometimes it will and won't after restart. And typing is having a lot of issues with letters not being recognized when I tap them. Phone is up to date with updates. Odd problem but irritating as heck.

If this keeps up, I'm returning it. Not even going to wait for any "tint" issues. Sad too because it really is a nice phone and feels like it. Has completely locked up a few times as well. I've never had any of this with my cheap Chinese phone.

Battery percentage at 32% after 48 hours of use so pretty decent. Will take me into tomorrow so that's 2.5 days. Much better than most.

It only takes a few days to develop issues. Better return sooner than later. It's ironic as my G Power 2020 hasn't given me any headache and only cost me 150. 😅

Yes so the letter H seems to be really bad. Barely works now. Home button getting worse too. More use, worse it gets. Something under the screen obviously. I have a G7 Power, but I had an odd text issue with it so I put it in a drawer. Loved the 3 day between charges though!

Samsung and Apple are the most reliable, followed by Pixel and OnePlus.

Moto should've pulled this phone months ago. All they have to do is research the source. I'm sure their engineers are smart enough.

It's funny, this is actually a phone I liked right out of the box. I'd change the case to a regular one since I don't use the edge part of the screen. But that's it. I like everything about it, except sending it back. The damn screen freeze while typing is ridiculous. I've reset twice and it comes back. Not playing with it any more. Since I haven't heard much about this issue, I may even give it a second chance and get another one.

A shame really. They've done a great job with this phone otherwise. In case I don't get a second, what's the closest phone to this EDGE in or near the same (on sale $400) price range? I'd try a OnePlus but they are quite a bit more.
