Thanks Suryasis! You have been awesome in adding deals with great knowledge about laptops. I am looking for a laptop for personal use and do some coding run android studio. No gaming or such heavy stuff. Waiting for almost a year, I use Thinkpad T470 at work, I like it. But that has i7. Does i5 on this deal good enough? Or should I get the other Thinkpad deal that is around $1100. Would love your input. TU & repped

Just a heads up have some of these at work and they all have an issue where the Ethernet over dock drops at random times. The dock we are using are 40AS0090US with newest firmware and fully updated x390s. The same docks will work flawlessly with T490 and T14's. Aside from the Ethernet issues over dock they work well.

8th gen was a significant change in processing power. Before this, most mobile processor, even the i7s were dual core. Beginning with the 8th gen, all i5s and above are quad cores so the increase in performance is big.

Isn't it very application dependent and most software utilize only 1 core?

price seems great for a thinkpad although wish it was Ryzen 4000 instead of Intel CPU!

Try to run excel file that is 20-200mb... you will see multi-thread processing.

Could be but multicore technology isn't new and I would expect most major publishers like Microsoft who have industry-standard software would have already updated their applications to run with multiple cores or threads.

How much better was that than this?

Will this machine be useful and suitable to use for working from home on?

Get the ThinkPad T14 or X13 with Ryzen 5 4650U chosen which will bring the price down to $800-$850 marks. They are way more powerful than Intel U series processors.
For Intel U series processors, there is not much difference between i5 and i7 as both are quad core with i7 has slightly higher clock speed and extra cache. The performance difference is negligible.
In my opinion, if you're okay with 13.3" laptop, get the X13 which is around $833 with Ryzen 7 4750u. You can downgrade the cpu to Ryzen 5 4650u to save money. That's still a 6 core 12 thread cpu and better than Intel offerings.
