Can anyone tell me what this is there go-to for? I know these are popular but I was wondering what people use them for.
Someone put it like this in the comment section on another site...if you're making a single batch of something, then the classic or tilt head is the best. If you're doing multiple/large batches, then this is great. This is in terms of baking obviously...idk about the pasta and other things. I read that this one will do a large amount (7 pounds, I think) of mashed potatoes. I have a tilt head artisan. I just bought this because the price is excellent.

This is an excellent mixer. We've been using ours for at least 4 or 5 years probably on average 3 times a week to make all sorts of bread, cake, pastry, cookie, and other doughs. Never had even a minor issue. Five quarts is pretty darn big and I am pretty sure the 6qt bowl will fit if you get one. Everything is machine washable, though it is best NOT to machine wash the wire whip, though we did (oops). It won't tarnish the whip itself (stainless), but the part that attaches to the mixer likely will be. Still not a problem unless you are filling this baby up to the point where your constituents will get that high. We use it a lot to make large batches and really don't have a problem with this. I am not sure why KitchenAid makes beaters that can tarnish vs. stainless steel or nylon coated everything.
edit: Also, this is the same price we paid all those years ago, no regrets.

From what I've read most of these have plastic innards. At this price point it's to be expected, that MSRP is ludicrous.

I've done so much research on this, and for bread baking, I'd pass on this one. The motor is a little weak for more tough doughs. I'd look into Bosch or KitchenAid commercial if you want to knead a lot of bread with it.
I believe this model is all metal gears. The cheaper-MSRP "Artisan" series has some plastic.

Looks like I'll be returning the one bought from Best Buy. $20 less and 7% cash back (via top cash back) instead of 3% at BB makes this deal worthwhile.

Bread Dough, cake and cookie batters, meringues, cheesecake fillings, etc. I feel it's useful if you are into baking. If you bake Christmas cookies once a year and that's it, I wouldn't consider it a worthwhile investment. But if you're baking a lot and are tired of doing stuff by hand, this should work for you. It also has a port to add attachments like an ice cream maker or pasta attachments. It's a good price for this model. I have an older one that works fine but this one has a bigger bowl. When making bread dough or double cookie recipes, it would be nice to have the bigger bowl. I should've pulled the trigger earlier as these colors aren't attractive.

Thanks. I sent it to my mom. She has one of the older models.

Older are often better. Not sure I would bother unless she had a tilt or lower capacity version. Some other upgrade than "being newer".

Looks like they restocked Aqua Sky, Contour Silver, and Milkshake colors, so the deal is alive again.
