I have s20+ and thinking to try this but curve edge is scaring me.
I moved from Note 10+ to OP8 and I was not impressed. Software has lot of bugs, OS doesn't feel as polished as Samsung UI and I honestly missed the Samsung Pay. I gave the OP8 to wife and got her Note 10+.
Isnt the s20+ curved edge too? My Note 20 Ultra is and i thought they were similar? Its not bad on mine actually. Its sometimes requires slightly more delicate touch on edge but also sometimes helps me to see edge notification lights while its face down or an edge clock while im in bed looking at it on my nightstand. On my Note 8, it seemed to make it tough as a tank in drops and stuff but ive already cracked this one so i guess thats just luck of the draw. Tho to be fair, it did survive several extreme falls onto concrete without a scratch before finally submitting to my relentless clumbsyness. Some people just shouldn't own nice things
No you should own nice things if you could afford it.
I for one has no luck with oneplus curve screen. I own the Mclaren and it cracked while in my backpack with the provided case, paid almost $300 to have them (oneplus) fix it. Got the phone back and the finger print reader went crazy when it wanted to. When trying to safeguard the screen, upon the 'screen protector' installation, I found out that the repaired screen had a concave in the middle and that the screen protector could not 100% adhere to. And one sad day, the phone fell out of my pocket onto the maybe a foot drop, screen cracked again. All that and their customer service with all the Chinese ladies with fancy English names gave me a tour and that I would have to pay out of pocket again to have it repaired; by sending it in again at my own cost. All in all, I paid almost over 1k for a so called no compromised second tier phone. There was oneplus, settled for me. Should have continued with Apple because I too, clumsy and dropped them with cases on, no problem from iPhone 6 onward to X.
Lesson learned. But others have adamantly to the death of their superiority of oneplus so YMMV.

This is the oneplus 8 pro not the regular op8....big difference. As for bugs in software oxygenOS is exceptional and every reviewer raves about how clean it is and how its arguably the best take on Android. I'm not familiar with using Samsung pay but they do have google pay. Not sure if it's similar on features so excuse my ignorance. I do agree the curved edges are sensitive from the message you replied to but I rarely have that problem since I ordered a case with a raised lip on the sides and I couldn't imagine using this phone without a hardcore case.

He was comparing S20+ with OP8 Pro, that is why I compared OP8 to Note 10+, both are older models. And there is no big difference in OP8 and OP8 Pro, they only have hardware upgrade, unlike Note lines from Samsung, which has overlay of function not available on S series. There is no comparison between Samsung Pay and Google Pay. Google pay requires special card readers, Samsung Pay works just like swiping a card, so it works everywhere.. There are plenty of people who have software issues including signal drop wifi, Bluetooth, LTE.
That's an incredibly poor assumption. Edge detection is pretty bad on OnePlus phones. They have yet to learn how to deal with it.
Don't believe me? Put your finger on the very edge of the bezel and slide your finger up and down. You'll see the page scroll. That's something they really need to work on.
Aside from the edge detection, this is a pretty good deal. The OnePlus phone that FINALLY "never settles".
What should the phone do on the edge? Have dead spots?

Plenty of people have software issues with the Samsung, iPhone, of, Sony, etc. Go on any forum for any phone and people will post similar issues. Granted you might actually have software issues for your model but to proclaim like there is a serious software flaw in oxygenOS is beyond ridiculous. Again I have the phone currently listed for this deal and it is amazing with no issues. Not sure is causing your phone issues but you have a different phone model(ya ya software is the same maybe the different ram has something to do with it). You prefer an older Samsung at 60hz 1080p but some might find having 120hz at 1440 is worth it especially for this price. It's a Slickdeal, good price for a good phone.

I've heard a lot of good things about the oxygenOS, I'm gonna get this phone next but will wait until BF for maybe even a better deal.
Simultaneously the most comical and actually ignorant post I've seen in SD probably this entire year. Weirdest flex to boot.
It's true though? I had the the one plus 6 when I was 350LBs/various edged screens, and now that I've lost 160lbs, at 190, the 7 Pro is amazing. I always had an issue with phones when I was fat.

I've had the OnePlus 7 Pro since release and have had no issues with the phone. Even still use the screen protector that came with it, though I ordered the nylon case from OP. I wouldn't worry about the screen much from a protection standpoint over say the S20+, however accidental touches will be an issue if you go without a case. I'm assuming one is included in this like the 7 Pro, but I definitely prefer the Nylon case from OP to the flimsy clear plastic of the included piece, and it's held up well over my time with the phone as well.
Honestly, you could probably go get a refurbished 7 Pro for $300-400 and not feel shortchanged while still having the money for a full replacement if needed to alleviate any concerns about the screen durability. The only incentive for me to upgrade is for the 120hz screen and 5G, but the difference between 60 and 90hz is significantly more noticeable than 90-120hz. I can't speak to the difference with the Snapdragon 865, but I can assure you my 7 Pro doesn't skip a beat and still runs silky smooth with the 855 and of course OxygenOS which I would not go without now. Switched from Samsung to OP with the OP5 when my Galaxy broke, and definitely didn't NEED a replacement when I upgraded to the 7 Pro. In fact, my mother has taken my old 5 because it's still insanely faster than the LG she had from the same year.
Anyways, long story short - I have become a OnePlus fanboy in general for sure, and this is a great phone. However, this year's upgrades are certainly incremental, I would expect the next iteration to shake things up a bit more.

It's common sense. Thin hands have a lower chance of touching curved areas. Compared to East Asians, Westerners tend to be much bigger, that much is fact. None of my edged phones have filled me with regret.

I am using a speck case with grippy back. Pretty happy with it.
