If Epson is really "the best projector brand" as they claim, why are we seeing so many refurbished units? Knowing how finicky projectors build are I am sceptical about the quality of the product.

Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks OP. Parker Gwen doesn't charge sales tax somehow. Plus with their 5% off e-mail sign-up code the final price is $1,615. The OP's post is a bit confusing, but I'm sure it's just me. I read it as you *must* buy a warranty but buying one is completely optional. The next model up from this is the 6050UB and that'll run you close to $4K. I was on the lookout for a well priced 3800 but brand new that's about the same price as this with lesser specs (in terms of contrast at least which is my use case in a room with no ambient light).

From epson's website ... not sure about PG's return policy. Very good deal but with the note below, not entirely sure.

Note: Epson does not accept returns on refurbished items except if product arrives defective, in which case, we will provide a replacement with the same model or equivalent. This unit may not include the same software or paper pack as new models.

Also note that "Refurbished projectors do not come with any additional accessories like mounts, 3D glasses and extra lamps" which would have normally come with a new non-refurb unit.

I also pulled the trigger on this too. I had been looking for a projector to replace my vintage 2013 JVC projector. I've been looking at used units on flea-bay and other sites, but buying with full 3-year warranty is nice. I thought I was going to wait until Black Friday to buy something (not that I won't buy something else if there's a great deal to be had, lol), but this was a decent enough deal with the 5% VIP discount and yeah, very surprisingly no sales tax for California which definitely helps.

These (According to the first site) are actually trade unit/demo machines. So they are new in box, just used for a few hours.
