Tips to help with laggy Android interface (from user dzap):
Quote :
You need to enable Developer Options first for the Developer Options menu to appear.

Settings --> Device Preferences --> About. Scroll to the bottom and Select Build and select it 10 times to enable Developer Options. You should see a toast prompt.

Go back one menu and developer options should be there now at bottom.

You can turn off or change the Window transition, transition animation and animator duration scale under the Drawing category.

Under Apps you can scroll down to the bottom and set Background process limit to "at most 4 processes".

I was very displeased with the Android based interface

I just purchased the 55" tcl of this model. The Android based OS is a complete joke. Just trying to set it up with passwords for email and WiFi the controller lag over the letters was very frustrating. We stream tv in our household, the foxnow app took literally 2 minutes to load before I was watching live tv. I found my self trying to select options that were on the screen but the cursor wouldn't move yet because the page was still loading somewhat, then the cursor would just end up way off when it finally loaded. Basically it is a toad and very slow OS.

The tv itself has horrible viewing angles which isn't a complaint, I bought a tv for the price. What is a complaint is when streaming live tv I get a hiccup in the sound every few minutes and lag. I'm not sure if it is the WiFi card or a processing issue. It definitely is not our WiFi we have streamed via roku for years in our household. So I ended up hooking my roku box up to this tv just to make sure something wasn't getting transmitted correctly. Low and behold the roku box solved every lag and load issue. It worked great. So now I have a roku/Android tv lol.

I called tcl a person answered in just a few minutes which was nice. They tried some diagnostic stuff over the phone unsuccessfully. Basically said the android base market is new to tcl and the company is exploring other options besides roku. He didn't seem too shocked that my roku hooked up worked much better and fixed the problems of the built in android. Don't expect a technician to come out on a $200 tv instead you will lugging this thing back to the store.

This is all just my experience, on a tv that is the same model in the 55". Maybe you're experience will be wonderful but I doubt Android is going to be any better in any of the lower models. I wish I would of waited for a roku model
I agree with everything you said. I have the 65 Hisense turn on this TV is like starting a computer the amount of time it takes to load the OS. My fix is to put Roku or or fire stick on it. I didn't have very big expectations for for a $250 TV so I'm not disappointed.

Many of the other comments are spot on. TCL makes great budget TVs and are more than enough for the average person who streams shows/movies and casual gaming. However the Roku interface is much better than the Android OS, so this 65' deal is only worth it if you have your own media stick or a video game console that can double as a media interface

TCL is way better hands down!! Compare this to the Onn this one is 120 mhz vs 60 mhz refresh rate on the Onn.

Android is just too demanding for these budget TVs. I have a Hisense with many of the same issues, sound lag, stuttering, laggy navigation menus- but using a streaming device solves all of them. I think companies don't want to pay the roku licensing fees, but these cheap TVs just don't have the processing power for Android yet.

I do NOT have this TV, but I can confidently say do NOT plan on ever using Android TV built-in.

Use an external device (Roku, Google TV, Apple TV, Fire TV) of your choosing, otherwise I promise you will go insane. Beyond the glitches, most TVs are far too underpowered to properly run Android TV. It's just a disaster of an OS implementation.

You are buying this for the TV itself, and nothing more.

bought the hisense 65" TV just a week ago... Android works great it loads apps just as fast as my Roku TV! I actually prefer it over my Roku because it automatically syncs with my android phone in browser so setup is actually much easier than my Roku TV.

Does anyone know what the refresh rate is on this one? I couldn't find it in the details.
TCL Official site says display 120 CMI, for some reason they don't mention the 120 hz, might be 60hz and they doing something to be seem like 120 so adding clear motion index(cmi) in the end

Pretty sure you meant hz... not mhz. Anyway, both TVs are native 60hz panels; the 120hz is motion rate interpolation.

Android dev settings, disable animations, app menu disable voice search, app anr limit 4, boom. Faster than Roku and infinitely more usable. If you watch anime, the subtitles on android TV are much better than the ones on Roku. Also if you want...you can use gamepass on here with Bluetooth controller.

Only issue is no xfinity stream but flex box is free If you really need it or just cast from android phone. or..use a Roku ultra which will be faster than built in roku anyways
