Tips to help with laggy Android interface (from user dzap):
Quote :
You need to enable Developer Options first for the Developer Options menu to appear.

Settings --> Device Preferences --> About. Scroll to the bottom and Select Build and select it 10 times to enable Developer Options. You should see a toast prompt.

Go back one menu and developer options should be there now at bottom.

You can turn off or change the Window transition, transition animation and animator duration scale under the Drawing category.

Under Apps you can scroll down to the bottom and set Background process limit to "at most 4 processes".

I've had a TCL 5 series for a 6 months and I've been happy with it. But a lot of changes to expert picture settings were required to make it look nice. The roku interface is snappy and intuitive.
As long as we're comparing apples to oranges.....I have a 24 inch Zenith also very snappy.

Get the Allstate 3 year warranty $47 and it comes with free shipping to your house. Beats the cost of renting a car .

I was very displeased with the Android based interface

I just purchased the 55" tcl of this model. The Android based OS is a complete joke. Just trying to set it up with passwords for email and WiFi the controller lag over the letters was very frustrating. We stream tv in our household, the foxnow app took literally 2 minutes to load before I was watching live tv. I found my self trying to select options that were on the screen but the cursor wouldn't move yet because the page was still loading somewhat, then the cursor would just end up way off when it finally loaded. Basically it is a toad and very slow OS.

The tv itself has horrible viewing angles which isn't a complaint, I bought a tv for the price. What is a complaint is when streaming live tv I get a hiccup in the sound every few minutes and lag. I'm not sure if it is the WiFi card or a processing issue. It definitely is not our WiFi we have streamed via roku for years in our household. So I ended up hooking my roku box up to this tv just to make sure something wasn't getting transmitted correctly. Low and behold the roku box solved every lag and load issue. It worked great. So now I have a roku/Android tv lol.

I called tcl a person answered in just a few minutes which was nice. They tried some diagnostic stuff over the phone unsuccessfully. Basically said the android base market is new to tcl and the company is exploring other options besides roku. He didn't seem too shocked that my roku hooked up worked much better and fixed the problems of the built in android. Don't expect a technician to come out on a $200 tv instead you will lugging this thing back to the store.

This is all just my experience, on a tv that is the same model in the 55". Maybe you're experience will be wonderful but I doubt Android is going to be any better in any of the lower models. I wish I would of waited for a roku model
I wish my new tcl 75 from Best Buy was roku. Android is garbage. I guess google is now giving better kickbacks to the manufacturers. With that said, super cheap and plugging in the fire stick makes most of it better.

Seems like a helluva deal. I have a 70" 1080p Mitsubishi DLP (you can start laughing now..) in the LR that probably burns more power - and cranks out more heat - in a month that this TCL uses in a year. Damn thing would probably pay for itself in energy savings! The question then becomes will even a better deal present itself come BF or CM? Hard to believe really at these prices but...

Edit: Pulled the trigger. Pickup in 4 hours. My Toyota Sienna Mommy van comes to the rescue again!

Isn't the hisense technically better since it has Dolby vision? Depending on how good that is? I ordered the Hisense, On and this for 65" and I actually have no clue what to stick with. Now that I think about it, may have been better to get two Hisense for my house rather than one hisense and one tcl 4 series. What do you guys think? Not many answers on comparisons yet

Is this the same TV at Walmart? I think not, model numbers are almost the same
If this is not the same, Is the Target better?

https://www.walmart.com/ip/TCL-65.../489346962

Also, is Android better then Smart TV?
(I use to be an expect on TVs but falling behind in recent technology)

The TV is pick up only. Doesn't matter if you add the warranty
