Hopefully the title is clear enough: now through December 31, you can get Ableton Live 10 Lite edition for free - it's yours to own, the license will still be valid after the offer ends.

Their upgrade scheme is steep. V10.x suite owners get charged ~$185 ? to upgrade to V11.
Cubase 11 = $99
Subscriptions suck but they are all charging almost yearly. At least with paid upgrades you
are getting something.
Update: NM, you need to click on "Download for free" again to go into an HTML page where you will have the serial number.
Again, great starting point, but if you're pretty serious about doing music production, don't expect this to last you more than a few months, a year at best.

On PC Reaper lets you do a 60 day trial at no cost with full features. So definitely no harm in trying! If you are working primarily with real audio (singing, guitars, piano) then Reaper is more economical and constantly updating with new features. If you are looking for more midi based things then reaper doesn't have a lot of built in sounds, loops, midi instruments like other daws do.
To me the closest thing to garageband on PC is mixcraft. Good mix of features & price and it is easy to use for those starting out. https://acoustica.com/mixcraft
I personally use Studio One 5 and it my favorite DAW I have ever used.https://shop.presonus.c
They do have a subscription model too if you want to try it for a few months.

If you have Adobe CC, After Effects and Premiere can do all the effects of Hitfilm.
Titles, tracking, gunfire, 3D composites, etc.

Adobe is not focused on the special effects like Hitfilm is, so you're not going to get videos from Adobe showing you how to make all these effects. There are 3rd party videos that do. Also, certain things like muzzle flash for guns, etc are easier in Hitfilm because they have preset effects. You'd have to build these yourself in AE (or download other people's projects). These presets make life easier.
Because AE is not inside Premiere, you do jump between the two. In Hitfilm, everything's in one program.
There is NO free AE, so you can't make your own Marvel / Action / SciFi films with Adobe products. Hitfilm Express is free, so you can.
Think of AE as a kitchen full of tools and food in the fridge. Hitfilm is the same but the food's been precut, recipes laid out.
Yeah, it's not free, but it is a slick deal!
