Hopefully the title is clear enough: now through December 31, you can get Ableton Live 10 Lite edition for free - it's yours to own, the license will still be valid after the offer ends.

Live 10 Lite is a lightweight version of Ableton Live 10. It comes with all of Live's essential workflows, instruments and effects – everything you need to record songs, create hands-on with your controller, take music made in your apps further and so much more.

The annual NAMM Show used to be the BIGGEST, BADDEST music products show in America where you could see and try out Ableton, FL, and more at their booths, along with 1000+ guitars, drums, pianos, etc.

Covid killed 2021's in-person convention sadly, replaced by their online event.

Worth hunting Twitter and elsewhere for passes.

Throughout the years I've used Fruity Loops (FL Studio), Cubase, Sonar, Reason, etc.

But, Ableton's "Session View" is a game changer.

So much so, that Apple has "stolen" Ableton's session view and is adding it to Logic's next release.

Apple incorporates Session View: https://djmag.com/news/apple-leak...o-x-update

Session View changes your workflow completely...in a good way.

I'm still learning Ableton, and it's so much easier to get ideas out of your head and into the computer without a lot of clicking around.

I would personally try a a different DAW, depending on what you want to do. I would try reaper, cakewalk, or waveform. If you're not doing much, audacity is OK, but I really don't like that program. All of these instead use non-destructive editing, allowing you to try a lot of different effects before rendering the final product.

Live is interesting and serves a certain kind of work flow and performance that is cool, but I had trouble getting the feel for it when I tried it. Some people really like it though. It's free...
Audacity's "destructive" editing comes from the user, not the program, but the workflow is less than optimal. The real problem is the overall workflow and an inferior VST wrapper. Cubase and other more serious DAWs process VSTs in much higher quality, it is fairly obvious in the final mixdown, plus they are in many ways more practical to work with.

All that aside, for quick recording of audio without the need to do anything more than running a spectrum analysis or applying simple fade in and fade out, Audacity does rock, uses less memory, and runs faster.

Can anyone recommend some good free VST's?
Voxengo Span for analysis, Density MkIII, Togu Audio Line and Valhalla offer free reverb(s), Klangheim DC1A, TDR Nova, Dexed if you want FM synth sounds, and many more if you google, tons of pages out there with recommendations, and you'll see some listed across most pages like the TDR Nova, 'cause they're that good.

Was looking at getting into beat making. Was about to take advantage of the 20% plus free upgrade to abelton 11. After getting 10 lite for free. It dropped the purchase price by $80 before buying the upgrade!
Thanks for the find!
