Just a warning... Ever since 5.0 the author is trying to push a "maintenance subscription" model... No program updates after 1 year (ok, understandable - don't like it, but fine)... But every time you start the application it essentially nags you to resubscribe to get the latest update.

And now the iOS app also nags you to upgrade to the latest BI server version upon every iOS app update re-launch.

Is there a difference in the Amcrest version or the version from blue iris site? I'm using Amcrest cameras so not biggie. Just curious.

I have to add. I have not seen any added functionality in the upgrades either. Honestly I liked v4 better than v5 but I am still running v5. If you have neither version then this is a good deal.

Currently using my NAS' surveillance software but it leaves a lot to be desired. This is a good price and I'm tempted but I only have Linux desktops. I suppose I could run in a VM but I would need a Win10 license. I tried playing with the unofficial docker container but it crashes a lot and doesn't save configurations.

How important is it to upgrade the software?

Same exact program. Just download from the BI site and use the key Amcest sends you.
Also, the license isn't activated until you use the license so if you plan to have another location or something it does keep. At least it did for me recently.

Btw, the discount code is working on other products too. Got Blue Iris and a doorbell for $125 ($14 discount)

I purchased extended 1 year support to upgrade from BI4 to BI5. Many issues in BI5. I kept upgrading and "hoped" issue would be resolved. After 1 year support ended, it de-activated the BI5 license. I rolled back to BI4 and never be happier. When developer became greedy, watch out!

I don't get this prompt on startup. But my fw is blocking everything but Gmail for my vm. Maybe that is the difference. Yes, I've held off on re-subscribing for yearly support/updates. He put some code in that newer versions know what update version your serial can use up to.

What issues are you having with BI5 that rolling back to bi4 does the trick?

How many cameras and what resolution do you intend to run? With gpu pass through from VMware, my 4vcpu and 4GB of ram w10 runs at about 35% for 6 cameras (though i do have them all max at 10fps with 2k resolution). Without gpu pass through, cpu was pegging all the time.

I am still running BI4. I noticed that my BI has shown CPU usage 100% ever since BI5 came out. I wondered if the author did something during software update to force me to upgrade to BI5.

What processor are you using and what GPU?
