I ended up selling the HF miter saw for cheap, and bought a same Metabo HPT for $199 at Lowes and I'm happy with it. Much better and accurate cuts.
The small end goes into my 2.5G Shopvac while the large end fits tightly on the saw.
It does not fit my Ryobi ONE+ vac.
Would someone who does basic diy projects at home notice the difference?

On this one the saw slides forward on the rails so you don't have to have a bunch of space behind it where the Ryobi the rails slide on the base and stick out the back so you need a foot of clearance behind the saw. hope that's clear...

Those are just not good enough. They aren't good miter saw and neither good table saw . So you end up with something that is poor on both

The non sliding will only cut a 2x4...not quite a 2x6. The sliding will cut up to a 2x12 if I remember correctly. These are both at 90 degrees.

The Metabo has fixed rails for the slide (only the saw slides on the rails), so you don't need space behind the saw to operate it. For the Ryobi, the rails slide back & forth so you need space behind the saw to use the full cutting range.
Also, Hitachi (now Metabo) usually has better build quality & reliability than Ryobi. Not sure how much of that carried over to Metabo.
The Ryobi is quite good, bought it for $130 back in 2017 BF sale. It was mostly true right out of the box, and once setup properly it was very accurate. Sold it when we moved, got more for it on CL than what I paid

Probably not. I've used one for years doing diy stuff. Now I'm dabbling into woodworking and need precision, I'm looking to upgrade. Ryobi has worked well for me
