Is gps + cellular worth the price upgrade? I always have my phone with me but if and when I get back into gym it would be somewhat convenient not having to carry a phone around. Although I do have one of those running belt pouches that I can discreetly wear under my shirt to carry it
FWIW - If anyone is near Fountain Valley in So Cal, the Costco there had (late last night) one grey 40mm series 6 with LTE marked down to 400.00. Obviously huge YMMV. Also a marked down 13" MacBook Pro for $1200 and Ring doorbell cams for 100.

I dont think its worth it because you may need to add on a "data line" on your phone plan to use the cellular in the watch by itself. I may be wrong so don't take my word before someone else replies

I prefer it. Costs me about $10 a month.
I use the pro max and hate running with it. With a set of headphones, the watch is a great phone replacement. Also good for emergencies when you don't want to have your phone, as well as places where you would prefer to leave your phone behind and not be seen looking at it, and looking at watch might be more socially acceptable.

Most people don't like to leave their phones behind. I personally never leave home without it. I don't pay for the service. I know it's $10 a month but can't justify the cost. If you're a runner great do it. But most people run with their phones. Outside of that I personally think its a waste of money.

I think if it was just the cost extra the cellular would be worth it, but from my quick research I think it costs at least 5-10$/month for Verizon wireless and also an activation fee around 40$.... so for me I can't afford it
If anyone can clarify this for me regarding the fees from Verizon that would be great!
I was sold with new family features it came with. Kids and family members who cannot have phones in institutions can have Apple watches and it can be used to know their locations, emergency calls etc. I felt it's ok to spend extra 100 on these features, future proof alteast
I have been using non cell version of Apple Watch since 2018. While I am not a runner I do like to leave phone behind when running errands nearby or even going for walk around the neighborhood. If another family member is with me it makes even more sense to leave the phone behind as that other family member has his/her phone. So for that reason I just bought series 6 with cellular option. I haven't activated it, as we are entering winter months but will do as soon as start to go back out. I also think it will be great as I go for bike or on my kayak $10 a month is worth it for that convenience.

I've had the cellular models of smart watches since they were invented and I just bought the newest Galaxy watch last month in wifi only. This is simply because I have never used it, I always have my phone on me. My theory is also that the cellular feature may take away from the processing power or memory, causing the watch to get sluggish sooner in its lifespan or more often in general.

T-mobile charges $10 per month for an LTE wearable as well (and it's a "DIGITS Data" line so none of their plentiful "free DIGITS line" offers/plan perks will cover it.) iOS currently tries to have your phone do all the cellular data work whenever possible, so at the gym the watch will not use its own LTE unless your phone is really unreachable by Bluetooth—2+ concrete floors or a metal locker away—and there's no WiFi. If you run, swim, surf, or do anything outdoors that's better enjoyed when not carrying a brick-like phone, that's where the LTE Watch shines; otherwise the GPS is a pretty safe bet.

As you'll see in other replies, it's highly subjective. I thought it was a gimmick on Series 3, but by Series 5 my lifestyle had changed enough that I like it. Particularly in Covid times. I frequently leave my phone in the home office to take the dogs out in the yard, or go for a walk and don't want to take my phone.
If it at all interests you (or the recipient) and you don't mind the extra $10/mo for data, I'd get it now while you have extended return period. T-Mobile used to offer first 3 months free. Other carriers might have a trial offer. At worst it's $10-20 to try it out and see how you like it.
I assume 40 MM is good for ladies and 44mm for guys? i find 44mm too big for my taste.
Yes, though it depends on wrist/hand side. I have Trumpian hands so 44 looks a little large, but I prefer the extra space. Apple Stores here are closed, but Costco could be a good place to try it.
