My first post... so go easy people!!

I was thinking of buying the old version of this San Disk portable SSD last night, which is on sale for $229, but found the new version (twice as fast) on sale for just $20 more. According to Honey, the price just dropped on this 2 days ago when it was apparently a ridiculous $459. I'm not sure what else to say...

So, there ya have it, my first post. If I've missed something or done something wrong, please let me now so I can correct it. Thx!

If I've done well, send me some reps Smilie

For 500GB the Samsung is a better brand and price

SAMSUNG T7 Portable SSD 500GB - Up to 1050MB/s - USB 3.2 External Solid State Drive, Gray (MU-PC500T/AM)

$79.99

There are multiple models of this with similar cases

SDSSDE60 up to 550MB/s (old model SanDisk Extreme)
SDSSDE61 up to 1050MB/s (this deal, new model SanDisk Extreme)
SDSSDE80 up to 1050MB/s (old model, SanDisk Extreme Pro)
SDSSDE81 up to 2000MB/s (new model, SanDisk Extreme Pro)

I can't tell if they just rebranded the old SanDisk Extreme Pro as the new SanDisk Extreme (non-pro). Make sure you are getting the model that you actually want.

Looks to me that the Samsung is less durable, not water resistant, and has a 3 year warranty vs the 5 year warranty on the Sandisk.

Yes, they have a lot of similar models. They didn't do a direct rebrand of the old V1 Extreme Pro to the new regular Extreme V2 as they have physically different case materials and sizes.

The Extreme Pro versions have a forged aluminum body they say "to protect the SSD core and dissipate heat". I'm not sure what case the regular Extreme has.

The Extreme Pro models (ending in 80 and 81) measure 4.40" x 2.28" x 0.45"
The regular Extreme models (ending in 60 and 61) measure 3.97" x 2.07" x 0.38"

The V2 of the regular Extreme (this deal ending in 61) is the same speed as the V1 Extreme Pro (ending in 80).

For what it's worth, the V1 Pro (ending in 80) is currently $330 on Amazon.

Anyhow, all models seem to be highly rated. I had the original Extreme 2TB model (ending in 60) and was quite impressed. I'm looking forward to having the new version...

I've used both the Sandisk and Samsung and form factor wise, the Sandisk has a lot of advantages. Also, in the last test by Anandtech, the Sandisk was generally faster than the Samsung across all but one test.

Would this drive show discernible speed advantages over the older model if attached to the USB-C port on the new PS5? I guess I'm asking if anyone knows if there is a bottleneck for running PS4 games off an external drive if attached to a PS5.

USB Type C is just a form factor change as I don't believe the PS5 supports power delivery anyway. All three USB3 ports on the PS5 are 10 gbps ports.

As far as load times. No, there won't be much difference between PS4 games installed internally on the PS5 SSD vs even a SATA based external SSD. PS4 games aren't optimized for the fast loading to really make a big difference.

Have the previous version of this and I absolutely love it. Just picked up another two (1TB and 2TB) after seeing this deal. Amazing product at an awesome price. If it's cheaper on Black Friday then you can always exchange it or work with customer service to refund you the difference. Either way, I highly recommend it and would jump on it.

Because the equivalent 2TB is $379 vs $249.. 1TB is $229.

That's only 1TB. The 2TB of that is $379.99+tax

(Ooops... missed that someone replied with this info 7 hours earlier. Think I need more coffee Wink)

There is a lot of info on this drive in this article:

https://www.storagereview.com/rev...-v2-review

To answer your question, it says this:
"The newest version of the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 has been launched today, doubling the speed of the last-gen SATA model due to its newly equipped NVMe technology and USB 3.2 Type-C support"

Hope that helps Cheers

Did the price on this go back up a bit? Shows $269.99 for me. Looking at camelcamelcamel just shows $249 at the moment.

Small precautionary note on the potential future Amazon price change stuff: I bought a 2080ti off them that I'd been watching the price on for many months. Bought it, then a week later they dropped the price $100. I got on chat, asked about getting the difference refunded, was jerked around for a bit between people, politely said I was not happy and proceeded to fill out the post-chat survey as accurately as I could.

Amazon is just as greedy and shitty as other companies. Unfortunately, they've made themselves just too god damn convenient Frown So your best bet would be to then return the thing and rebuy it. Because screw them.
