Just picked mine up, it is the rear grease management system!
Looks like the old model that drains to the front. As someone who's used both you want the one that drains to the back
Sealing juices has been debunked many times fyi.

So searing doesn't seal in juices on steaks? Interesting.

TS shows model 1554 which has rear grease drain according to Blackstone site. Maybe they have old picture up. I bought the soft cover and NG conversion kit separately and not really interested in the magnet strip.

I don't use the magnet strips at all. If you use them while cooking they just get filled with gunk.

Now the pegs on the end for holding tools? I use those all the time.

I dont know if this griddle would replace a gas grill. It all depends on what you want to do. I got rid of my charcoal and propane grills for a pellet smoker, then added one of these:

https://www.outdoorcooking.com/ca...combo.html [outdoorcooking.com]

So between these two systems, I have a smoker, a grill, and a griddle. The grill and griddle arent huge, but they work for me. I can also get another grill box and/or griddle if I feel I need it, but that is the nice thing with these - they are versatile.
It really doesn't replace a gas grill. Two separate tools for two separate functions. Having both though really gives you a LOT of options. Great to have side by side.

Does that mean less quality ? Or is there a downside to that ?
No, it is the same quality.

I bought this earlier in 2020 when it was $95.67. The whole package is manufactured by Blackstone. At $95.67 it was a better value vs buying the grill & stand separately:

Front grease trap runs to the right side where it is supposed to drain through a hole into a drip tray. Location is convenient but in practice the shape of the drain doesn't let the grease fall off very well, so it ends up sticking to the underside of the griddle and you end up with grease running down the body.

Easy fix is jam a paperclip down the hole so the grease travels down the paperclip to its end where it then drips into the drip tray. Looks odd but works really well. Or there is a little slide-over part that does a similar thing, where it angles down and prevents grease from traveling back to the body. Easy to find if you google it as grease issues is the common problem with the front grease drain.

Rear is just a better design, but hardly a deal breaker either way. The Walmart exclusive with the magnet, the tool holders, paper towel dispenser, and hard cover looks like a pretty good value at 100 more.

My only question would be the lid. Holes/handles drilled through the lid can be a easy place for water to enter. Having never seen it I cant say if the lid is a problem or not, but something to be aware of. The cover I got is thick diamond plate and the pieces are welded so no opportunity for water to leak in. Overall very happy.

We just redid our kitchen. No oven/range from August 31 through beginning of November. Had this, a Weber BBQ, and a smoker. This was my favorite of the 3 as its basically just a big pan. Can cook most anything on it. BBQ was nice since it has a side burner for boiling water (a pot o this is very inefficient), but most anything you can cook on a BBQ, you can cook on the Blackstone, but there is a lot that you just cant cook on a BBQ.

Breakfast on this thing is great. Eggs/hash browns/bacon/sausage/pancakes ect and all at the same time.

It is so versatile. I can pretty much do anything, from fajitas to steaks to briskets. It is a fun setup.

I own a Weber gas grill and I put grillgrates on it. These are reversible so you can use the flat-top side or the side with ridges like a more traditional grill.

I only mention that because I have found the flat-top side to be superior for basically everything.

The next time I buy something, it'll be griddle style cook top like the blackstone.

Any recommendations for the grill grates.. I have a weber genesis so invested too much into it already..

I have the one with the grease tray on the front right side. I haven't had any issues with it being there. Seems convenient being in the front to empty. Granted, I haven't used a rear grease tray model, but for me, it seems pretty easy to move grease to the front. I haven't been burnt, splashed, dripped, or anything. And the grease goes right into the grease tray, no drips down leg of grill, etc. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but for me grease tray being in front or rear wouldn't be a make it or break it kind of thing.
