MicroCenter: AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT Matisse 3.9GHz 8-Core AM4 $299.99 IN-STORE ONLY YMMV

Looks like Microcenter is clearing out their AMD Ryzen 7 3800XT for $299.99 IN-STORE ONLY. It's not current gen Zen 3, but at this price for a Zen 2 8 core/16 thread, I'd say it's not bad. Pricing is similar to the $445 Amazon Prime Day Deal for the 3800XT/B550 Tomahawk Combo if you pair it with a motherboard for a $20 discount. I personally have this CPU and I'd say it's still a pretty relevant CPU that can handle both gaming and streaming at the same time.

Second time posting, so take it easy. To all those who say "wait for Zen 3", good luck grabbing one with supply constraints and scalpers/bots.

Wow! Great deal on an eight-core processor. I've seen that the 5600X outperforms the 3700X in many tasks, but I'm guessing the 3800X will close the gap and/or exceed the newer 6 core CPU, and like you say, it is available.

Really tempted to buy this but I know it's overkill for my 9 year old. He's getting a new pc for Saturnalia

Is this worth? My current PC is really slow these days but would I benefit waiting a couple(maybe 6) months for zen 3 to come back in stock?

It's a judgement call, but I am going to wait. Worst case, the stock of the zen 3 processors will bring these zen 2 processors down in price even lower.

I am just afraid I'll be waiting 6 months and then be tempted to wait for zen 4 to come out, and around we go.

For context, I have an overclocked 2500k. For being 10 years old, it holds it's own considering it's age.

Bro! I'm in the same spot. I only overclocked now to keep up these days. My issue is I run 4 monitors and one is 144hz with a bunch of background processes going. So it's really getting long in the tooth :/

how does this compare to the i9-9900K? Also $300

I'd expect the apps are more optimized for intel.

I just stuck my 9 yo kid with the 9700k. Poor guy.

($100 cheaper and has board discount. If you aren't the type to swap out hardware, it's worth a look...)

9900K uses more power but is about the gold standard for gaming as of a month ago.

The new AMD chips are faster and will drop into the boards you would buy today, but then you have to flip the chips you are buying today, etc.

9900K socket is dead, that's the fastest CPU you'll ever buy for that socket.

Again, if you aren't the type to drop in a new CPU down the road, the 9700k/9900k are the way to go today. They'll be faster than the 3800xt and just use power doing it.

All depends how long you plan on holding onto your computer. If its long term, I would say wait. I have a few year old computer but am upgrading to a 5900 series only cause I was lucky enough to get in on a preorder, but even with my preorder I got a notification I wont get the CPU till Q1 so I got all other parts ready to go and just waiting on the CPU. Also waiting on a new GFX card too.

Both 3600 and 3800XT are available at my local Microcenter. But it's hard to justify the $120 jump from 3600 to 3800XT.

Still rocking my overclocked FX8350 and RX480. I think that the CPU/GPU combo is balanced enough that I won't see much benefit unless I upgrade both CPU and GPU. Then that'll be at least $700.

Don't worry. I had a 10 year old 6 years ago and got him the 4770k. It is still fine but have upgraded the video card twice since then! LMAOLMAO
