IMHO, "weird" colors are actually more practical because you can spot your luggage amongst other black or dark colored luggage at the airport.

However, these are made of ABS - the cheapest material for hard luggage. Thus, you may want to invest in a better set if you want to avoid mini disasters in your first trip to Europe.

Putting more wheels on the bottom of cheap luggage still makes it cheap luggage. Never buy ABS luggage no matter how much it spins

TL;DR choose luggage made from polycarbonate, unless weight is your main concern (lightest is polypropylene).

The article never mentioned fiberglass, I believe my old Samsonites were made out of some sort of fiber composite (before the prevalence of plastics).
