$10/month+$5/GB seems rather steep in the case of emergencies. I'd rather stick to Mint Mobile's $15/month + infinite GB. If they made it $1-2/GB instead, then this could take down Mint for me.

Ting sucks. You are forced to pay $6 for nothing every month.

Agreed. Maybe they removed the $6 each line fee with these new plans. I had a $30 credit that was used up in 1 month with very light usage. You have to call them to cancel the account. And they will still send you emails that they will send you to collections for non payment.

I signed up for Ting thinking it would be cheaper. Oh how wrong was I.

I got a spam text and Ting charged me $3. They count incoming texts in your quota. Stupidest shit. Your friends with unlimited texts could send you 100+ texts and your bill would go up.

Not something OP did but a word of caution. When Ting was on previous plan, they used to offer referral bonus. If they still do, then DO NOT USE IT. They would suspend your account claiming fraudulent referral. They did mine without any warning or information. My friend called me over whatsapp to inform that your number is not reachable from a while. Whenever I would call someone, it would go to CS. I thought it was network issue but then an hour later I called and it connected to a CS which told me my account was suspended. I had a flight to catch in an hour and had to book uber. Fcking shi!t. I told them this and they said, you violated the TnC. All I did was refer 2 people, one on reddit and one to a friend. The forfeited all my credits, including the sign up bonus credits of $50 or 100 whatever it was. As soon as I landed from a flight, I got another sim and ported out of Ting.

Won't ever try them again.

I'm surprised that Ting is still in business today with their business model to charge $6 extra per line.

No. There is no longer a $6 per line access charge.

Agreed. Both my parents on tello right now. Working well and no issues. In fact you can get it for way cheap if you buy a 6 month 2gb plan on stack social for $49. They periodically have codes that bring it down further, like $39.

Ting is stupid, sometimes they even mis-calculate, then bill the missing sms / voice counts on the current billing cycle, even you have not used any of them.

For ex, they claimed that I used 10 sms last month but only counted 9, so they billed me the other 1 on current billing cycle, that means I had to pay $3 for the past SMS usage, even I had explicitily disabled any usage on sms and voice for the current billing cycle!

They may be a good choice 5 years ago, not anymore. Nowadays You can find much better deals easily.

Right, instead, they charge $10 for unlimited talk/text which I believe many people do not need at all.

Had 4 of their kits from the $1 Best Buy offer a year ago. The first one I activated, never used any air time or data. Lasted a couple of months. Cancelled before any charges. Was a bit of a hassle cancelling as you can only do it by speaking to customer service.

Activated a second kit a couple of weeks ago. Ported out immediately(same day) to Visible.
