Depends which one you are comparing, Netgear rbk50 has a 4x4 5Ghz dedicated stream so would be superior. The rbk20/40 has 2 2x2 5 Ghz streams one dedicated for backhaul, so similar. But the orbis are generally costlier
FYI, the Nest Router is AC2200, but the Nest Points are only AC1200.
Love the Google Assistant bonus, but the speed wasn't there for me. Even with a Great Mesh connection, the speed would only be around 100-ish at the Points. (270-ish at the Router). Also, FWIW there's no ethernet ports in any of the Points if that's important to you at all.
I had the same results. I really like the router but now I'm thinking about getting the Google WiFi to replace the nest point so I can have the extra access points hard wired around my house.
Depends on how fast your internet connection is. I bought 3 routers for my 1935 sqft 3 level house (basement, main floor, upper level). Turns out I only needed 2 to cover the whole house. No loss of signal anywhere. Wifi speed is just as fast as plugged in to the router These things are great.
So dumb question, but if I get two routers I then need two modems right? And those need to be high speed so it becomes an overall expensive setup?
You dont need 2 modems. Especially with mesh system you do not even need to hard-wire 2 routers with each other. Consider it wifi extender but much better then small plugin extenders.
Nest routers are AC2200, but a point to note is the 2.4 Ghz is rated at 400 Mbps 2x2, 5 Ghz is 1750 Mbps 4x4, for a combined AC2200. The 5 Ghz is shared for mesh backhaul and clients. Since most clients are 1x1 or 2x2, the 1750 Mbps does not make sense for clients, given 4x4 clients are very rare if any. Nest access points are AC1200 and 2x2, so can't take advantage of the 4x4 backhaul, so buying another Next Router to take advantage of the full 4x4 backhaul makes more sense.

One puck will connect to your modem. That puck will then mesh (connect) to the other pucks and create your mesh network.
Routers are AC2200 with 4x4 MU-MIMO and Ethernet ports while the access point is AC1200 with 2x2 and no other ports.
