It depends on which ecosystem you are in. If you already have a bunch of firesticks and recast, you can get a FireTV and everything comes together nicely without much technical setup. You can probably achieve the same experience with Chromecast if you know how to do the setup. Fire TV also has micro sd card which is not there for any Chromecast. Chromecast works well for anyone in Google ecosystem which is not as closed as Amazon. So probably comes down to your preference and existing setup.

1 deal breaker for me for not moving to Chromecast from fire tv is the vpn feature. Of course there are workarounds but having an in-built vpn is way more convenient

because of Kodi for me. Otherwise I would take chromecast any day since my whole house is google.

Not worth mentioning, 4k version has half a gig more ram for the same price (+$1), So standard is a rip off
Don't mean to change topic/hijack thread. But
smile.amazon.com is legit. If you go through the link a certain percentage (0.5%) of whatever you spend goes to whatever non profit you choose. It may not seem much but adds up and is just another way of fundraising for your favorite cause. I've sent hundreds of dollars to a local food bank. It makes me feel my SD addiction does a little good.

Kohls cashbacks are single-family-pyramid schemes.. you keep on thinking you are saving 15 off 50, but then can't apply it with any additioanl % later and end up buying their overpriced items.. been there done that. COVID made it impossible for us to use many of their Kohls cash and am glad we are out of that cycle... but yeah.. if that's your cup of tea still

They should have discounted it further. It's a decent device but the 4K is better. 49.99 vs 39.99 regular pricing for 4k Fire Stick vs 2020 Fire Stick.

Is the cube still the more powerful device even though it's older? I want to upgrade my current fire tv stick but I want to get something that won't become so slow over time that's it's unusable.

Is there any benefit to trading in my old fire stick while purchasing the new 4k one?

We love our cubes. Haven't had to reset them on a regular basis (we upgraded from firetv boxes).

I'm waiting and hoping the 4k drops to $25 or even $20 on Black Friday. They went to $30 last year, so a bit more off seems possible.
