The Dell Cyber Monday ad has the G5 model with a 2070 video card for $50 less than this. However many reviews say this laptop runs extremely hot to the point of danger. Googling I found at least one law firm working on a class action lawsuit over the overheating issues.

This looks like a great find, if no one has any issues with overheating and throttling.
Great specs at $1150 with RTX 2070 maxQ from G5, has rgb keyboard, and thunderbolt, 512gb ssd, 1080p 144Hz, i7-10750H, 16GB DDR4. -- these specs rival RTX2070 deals like MSI GL75,MSI GE75, HP omen, Asus M15. --only the Intel cpu will turnoff AMD people. And maybe some people don't like Dells build quality.

Dang. Nice setups for the price. Big difference for my son may be the battery. 86Wh vs. 68Wh. I may like these better than that Costco MSI deal.

I wish I could use a 10% off Dell military code but they aren't available now.

Id def consider getting a laptop cooling pad for this. I'd suggest one of the nicer ones with 3 fans and good reviews obviously. Hopefully avoiding any heating dangers.

I will admit, I am looking at the MSI. If this was a 17", this would be a super deal. Might have to go ahead and wait until actual Black Friday...

These laptop specs and models are making my head spin. I need a solid multi-tasking for daily use, along with running DJ software (Serato DJ), Laser software (Pangolin), casting hi-res lossless music to external wifi and BT 5 DACs, some photoshop and graphics work, and I may do some live streaming (DJ sets). I've chatted with Dell support 4 times, each rep gives a different suggestion.

I'm stuck between this G7 or the XPS linked below. Any insight or suggestions? This $1k+ needs to be the right choice. I'm well adept at using a PC - but picking one out isn't something I've done for 5+ years.

I'm stuck with Dell, since they're the only ones to approve me for financing. The last 2 reps keep insisting, the G7 is "for gaming" - you don't want that. But to me, it seems like the G7 has the better specs???

So which one? Or another suggestion? My original budget was $1k...but I have some wiggle room. Both of these are within $22 of each other

If you can swing it I'd go for the XPS. Super slick machines constantly top ranked. Lot more professional. Easier to carry too.

My first thought is do you need the graphics card on these PCs. You didn't list gaming; is your graphics work photo editing or things like 3d rendering? Reducing the graphics card or maybe finding something with a smaller ssd may be one way to reduce costs without impacting performance.

Never owned a g7 but I agree with the other person that XPS machines are pretty nice.

edit:. I agree with what you said at the end that spec for spec the g7 looks like a better deal. At the same time I'm not sure that in your use cases the enhanced performance between these will be noticeable. Or even the performance between these and a step down. I'm not familiar with the performance requirements of all the software you are running but may be worth it to start there and make sure you aren't paying for performance that will not be manifested in what you are doing on the laptop.

I am with the guy above. If your plan is to use it mainly for playing games go for the RTX2060 if your plan is to play games some days but focus on using the laptop on other things then the XPS with 1650 will be just fine. I used the walmart HP that came with a gtx1650 for $450 and it ran PUBG in ULTRA with fps of around 30-40. So dont write off the 1650 like my dumbass did. Granted I wrote it off mainly because of the 60hz screen.

Is 2070MaxQ worse than regular 2060. Why's it 50 bucks lower?

It's a g5 vs a g7 and half the ssd space. But other than I'm not sure. I'm guessing the 2070 maxq isn't much better than the regular 2060 if I had to guess. Sounds like it runs hotter tho.

The laptop that runs hot is the one on the post or the G5 you mentioned ?

Both. Most of the reviews are about the g5. When I saw this was a g7 I checked. It's harder to find g7 reviews but there were a few complaining about temperatures. I don't know if it's as bad as the g5 though.

I'm probably going with the Costco Msi Black Friday one. I'd prefer the Dell if it didn't get so hot.
